    Touch down Europe

A travel blog entry by anlnewby on May 12, 2015

After a 12 hour flight we touched down on the European continent in Amsterdam. We arrived at 6am so had the whole day to explore. Our first experience with the public transport system went smoothly and we found our hotel easily. We dropped off our bags and started exploring the city the best way we know how, by feet. We used a map but really had no aim so just wondered through the streets and over canals. For breakfast we ...

... depth, not quantity. All I can say is, we'll have to come back, for several days! We then walked a bit, then settled in for an informative canal cruise, which our feet also appreciated. Amsterdam is quite huge, and has a harbor that gives out to the North Sea. We saw churches, buildings old and new, and birds! This in a very narrow street about one vehicle wide. ...

... kids, and some have child seats in the front and back (we call these minivans). They sit really high on the bike and the handles look like they're at waist level. We went to this awesome bar for craft cocktails and food and around 10 we headed into the red light district. I told you, I find it fascinating and I really wanted to go! It was completely packed with people and where only 1/2 the windows were full during the day they're all full at night. Most of them are in ...

Amsterdam Walking Tour and Heineken Experience

... where they run in the meadows haha, I wouldn't mind that!! After this you do a tasting and they tell you how to drink Heineken like a pro. It actually doesn't taste that bad if you gulp it which is how you're meant to have it. I thought it was a bit fruity which is apparently the "A" yeast in it. The next part is interactive so you can play games and watch Heineken adverts from the past. Later I got to pour my first pint. That is much harder than it looks but I'm a pro now so ...
