... Lido, home of the Venice Film Festival. As the waterbus stopped at every stop, it took almost an hour to get there from Rialto, but it was a nice break from the pedestrian and tourist laden Venice proper. There are actually cars and buses on Lido, with very few canals. There's even a seawall you can walk on if you turn left after leaving the waterbus. I tried to find the beach, but as the day was ending, ended up not going as I didn't realize it was just another 5 minute ...

... between 530-730 where you can get a drink and buffet for 5 euro. Now before you get too excited, the buffet consists of pasta and a selection of bruschetta, some topped with tomato, other cheese, pesto, tuna. The sun had just set on our way back, so we spent some time people watching on the Rialto bridge. Not bad for a 1st evening in Venice. Tomorrow, explore Venice, the next day checking out the other islands and day 3 in Verona before heading south to Florence.

Train at 9.30am to Verona (Italy) was fairly full – we found out later that the Venice marathon is on tomorrow so there more people travelling than usual. The journey took us through the Austrian and Italian Alps with breathtaking scenery on both sides of the train. ... where we went. They had bridges connecting each street they had and they didn't have boats every where we went. The only place we saw some boats was when we went onto the main river and there were not even that many there.
