Journey to Swan Lake
... at least a short while. The Slovenian languages similarities to Croatian were also a welcome thing indeed. This was particularly helpful at meal times when reading the menu, as we actually knew what we were ordering for the first time in a long time. We went so far as to make it even more Croatian by Marcus volunteering to make every meal a ‘pola pola’ meal (half and half) so we could try as many things as possible. As only three restaurants ...
Indulging in gorgeous lakes
... waterfall, but not overly amazing. Again, the lack of solitude in which to enjoy nature kinda spoils it a bit.
Slovenia is definitely on my "must come back to" list, as we have only just scratched the surface here...especially in this north western corner where there is a huge national park, many mountains worth hiking, and many rivers to explore. Next time might try and pick places a bit more off the beaten tourist trail though. ...
Best town yet
... mountain and over 300,000 people died up there - apparently the most of any alpine battlefield. We also got to do some white water rafting, but it was fairly tame as the water levels were low.
On the next day we left our tour group and rowed out to the island in the lake in the Morning. Then we were off to Ljubjana for the afternoon. We loved the town of Bled, real pretty alpine town and plenty to do. ...
Sad day for Slovenia
... revelers-come-mourners behind and climbed the hill out of the city centre towards a castle that I could see perched on top. It was not far to climb, but the gravel path and gradient was quite a challenge and I was puffing slightly when I reached the top. Every excuse to stop and admire the view. From this vantage point you could see every detail of the city - every church spire and colourful building. Beyond the city, was a ring of lush ...
Another long train day...
... the banks of the river. A fantastically pleasant place to stop for a coffee and a beer and enjoy the sunset. The alternative local beer, Union, is a slightly more pleasant alternative.
Calling it a day we headed back to the hostel to enjoy the art in our cell. Tip 2 - if removing posters from walls use paint scrapers and gloves, a nasty little trick is to stick rusty razor blades under the posters...
