2 hours in Monaco

ok, it was more "collecting a new country" than being really interested in Monaco. Strange, when you go there from Nice airport by bus it costs you 18 € one way, when you go from Nice bus terminal it costs 1 € one way. Monaco is a very clean city. I have never seen so many big and expensive cars. I saw the casino and the castle. Nice, but not spectacular.

Nice

I know I always write the same...great weather, such a nice city, good food....but I have to say that Nice was a (very) big surprise for me, I can say that it is my favourite city in Europe (ok, number 2 after Lisbon). You have the mountains, the Cote dŽAzur (when you see the water you know why the name is Cote dŽAzur), the market with fresh vegetables, fruits, honey, oil, soap, you have great restaurants ...

Less than 4 weeks to go.....

It is Sunday and very wet and miserable here in Antibes. Quite a change from the glorious day we had yesterday. Ideal for computer work in fact... (Except that then things didn't pan out as planned and it is now Monday)

It wasn't my intention to have an entry before my departure but the response to my initial circular has been so overwhelming that I feel it merited an ...

Boring drive day so here is life in Scooby

Keeping Clean... the shower offensive Scooby is only the size of a delivery van... 4.8m Long and 2.3m Wide... fits snuggly into a shopping car park space. Height is not an issue as he is 2.6m tall so plenty of room for us shorties! The point is that space on the inside is at a premium, so the shower is "cosy"... but it does the job. Best of all we have a gas water boiler so the water is HOT HOT HOT!! We need to fill up our water tank every few days as there is only enough ...

Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous

... the Contiki group in a local restaurant, followed by some drinking games in a pub! All good fun really. As it was getting quite late (and I need my beauty sleep) I went to bed, whilst Mark took a trip to another casino. He didn't get in until about 3.30am all drunk! He swears he got lost on the way home for an hour but I reckon he was just enjoying himself too much to sleep. He was a bit rough on the journey the following day!

Day Spas, 4 Stars (but no celebs) and Pebbley Bums

We sadly departed Paris (don't think we've been happy to leave a place yet, except for Honkers and that was different!) and took our first Eurail journey to Nice, located on the lovely French Riviera. As Dee turned 26 in October and is no longer a younging, we had to buy first class tickets in order to sit together (more expensive, but totally worth it!). So we were geared up for our first train journey. The train itself was unbelievable, the seats were soooo comfy and much more spacious than ...

A day of reflection…

... seem to be chain smokers, lighting another as soon as one goes out. At a table of four, when one lights up, they all do. Unlike Toronto, drivers in Spain and Portugal don’t throw their butts out the window…in France the odd one does.

The onlookers…no matter where we go or which country we’re in, people stop and look at our bikes and ask questions about where we are from and what were ...

St Paul de Vence my last perched village!

... longed to take a bath there!!! Looking over at the perched village l smiled at myself and realized l was after all staying in one of the Mansions l had looked out upon and dreamt of staying in! It was paradise....despite the fact that l was tre malade (very sick). But l will never forget this place- the amazing comfy furnishings (which amazingly had not dated for over the 12 years they had been placed there), the large plate chester draws with built in lights illuminating it ...

The Mediterranean is NOT like glass.

... when people dress and really gamble with lots of money. The croupiers did look rather bored (or maybe they were just being French)- they must look down their noses at the commoners who come in from the cruise ships in their sneakers and T-shirts. There were only a few roulette tables open and one blackjack table. Okay, some excitement here - I almost get arrested. Our tour guide had told us that if we wanted to keep our cameras with us to tell them that we didn't have ...
