Flew to Milan from Dublin then took the train to Savona to board the cruise. Quaint little seaport town which I wish I had more time to explore. Forgot to take a picture of the ship! Not sure how I feel about a big cruise ship (3,800 passengers) but the price was right so thought I would experience it!
Savona, Italian Riviera, Italy pathenger... the Med before taking us inland and through the olive groves.
On arrival at Portofino we were greeted with a similar village to those in Cinque Terre but not quite as quaint. Not sure what all the fuss is about...Santa Margherita wins our vote.
Back at Scooby for lunch of bbq chicken wraps and biscotti for dessert, then onto the autopista to lovely Lucca.
... leaving you with a bright cheery feeling, the sun is shining and there are palm trees everywhere. Anyways back to Genoa the soon to be ground hog's day of our trip. We had checked, checked and double checked our ticket to make sure we knew of any transfers and where they happened. We made sure we were in our rightful seats even we have had to many experiences of getting in trouble for being in the wrong seat and we are tired of playing musical chairs. As we ...
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy konaduyThis morning we woke up to get ready to go on the Historic Center walking tour of Genoa. We had a nice breakfast at the buffet and I even found a decaf cappa for breakfast too. We met in the lounge at 8:45 and got on a little boat in the harbor and had a tour of the harbor and then got off at the aquarium and started our tour. Genoa is very nice and the historic section dates back ...

A wonderful winding route via a inland section have lead me from Pisa to the coastline around Genova. But since in that part of the environment it was very hard to find a spot for bushcamping I took the toll freeway to prevent to get stuck in the chaotic traffic of Genova and headed north into the highlands of the northern region of Genova. A beatiful spot at the top of a mountain has provided perfect views to sunset and sunrise, but a bloody cold night!

... a pleasant female voice that we have affectionately named "Fraulein" for our trip. Fraulein would later become our best friend.
As we moved about through the city heading to the highway, and ultimately to our first Autobahn, another odd tend was noted. When stopped at a red light, the yellow will light with the red for a couple seconds, to signal that the green is imminent. Once the yellow and the red go out, the green comes on. This ...
... As we had already seen most of these sights, we decide to eat most of the day. As you can see in the photo, we had foccacia with artichokes and a pepperoni (salame in Italian) thin-crust pizza. We also had some great gelato. For dinner, Tio and us decide to go to an Italian-style pub for dinner. Cristina decided to stay home to rest. We ...
Genoa, Italy cbyung... out to fly to London to see the Stones. We spent an hour in the internet shop booking him a flight leaving from Rome the next day. On the walk home we were chatting and he said "Why dont you just come to Rome with me?". Thats all the nudge I needed. Within an hour and a half we were packed and at the train station hopping on our train to Rome. I woke up that Thursday morning with no thoughts to go to Rome but getting to do some tourist things I was planning on doing anyway while ...
Cinque Terre, Italy jtpharrBuying a ticket for an elevator? Genova was eerily quiet when we arrived, but that is what we get for arriving on a Sunday. This allowed us to leisurely walk it's black and white arcaded sidewalks getting a full view of the old mosaics below our feet. This ancient port has some wonderful palazzi which house art collection, the linked Palazzi on Via Garibaldi (Bianco, Rosso, and Toursi). After some terrible pizza, we enjoyed seeing artwork by Rubens ...
