To the Coast
MH: 2 hour sleep on bus to the coast to find low fog, which fortunately hasn´t dampened either of our taste for icecream (helgado) & any risks of fading away to nothing in the first week have been avoided. Our last day in Vina was dedicated to seeing the sights but this fell flat on its face as most of them were closed. First up was a museum with artifacts from Easter Island...closed. Chilly Chiloé & vintage Valpo
... visiting Chiloés many wooden churches, small villages and a beautiful national park along the Pacific coast. Considering the wooden architecture this could be Chilean version of Maramures or Suwalszczyzna :) The national park was supposed to be inhabited by pinguins but the *******s decided it´s too cold for them so they migrated north...We decided to follow them (to warm up as well) and took a nightbus to Santiago. House of Valparaiso
... wat ze hier een 'completo' noemen, en op elke hoek van de straat verkopen is keer op keer een topper.
Ik ben enorm dankbaar dat ik hier mocht vertoeven net op het begin van mijn 27ste levensjaar. Ik droom al lang van deze stad te bezoeken, eigenlijk vanaf ik enkele jaren terug het nummer 'House of Valparaiso' (link!) van Calexico voor het eerst hoorde. Nooit gedacht dat ik hier effectief zou geraken... ik kan alleen maar hopen dat ik hier ooit nog terugkom.

Old English Toffee
... everyone knows I like hot chocolate) which was thick and not too sweet and just the right temperature. I recommend Cafe con Letras to anyone going to Valparaiso, which everyone should do. On our way back to Viña we went down the oldest funicular lift in Valpo, it was built in 18something and I have to say, going down was far scarier than going up. It was more jolty and I just wasn´t sure we were going to stop!
