The four figurines on the side represent the fears of vanity (man with mirror), greed (man with money bag), death (skeleton) and foreign ideas (turk). At the hour death rings the bell but the other three shake their heads, not ready to leave earth. Then twelve apostles circle around and the golden bird crows and the three men are given more time.
