buses in Argentina rule, absolute luxury, we got seats that fold down into beds, pillows and blankets, drinks, supper, breakfast, champagne, makes 18 hrs fly by yesterday afternoon we booked a hostel online in Puerto Iguazu before we left cos the thought of arriving at Retiro bus station in this rather large city with nowhere to go didnt appeal to us, its similarly priced to everywhere else we have been at $13.50 each for a double room incl breakfast, its in Palermo, and its called Hostel So...
Buenos Aires, Argentina adisylThis morning we start at the Recoleta Cemetry, where Eva Peron is buried, it looks like a place only for the wealthy, the tombs are very extravagant, some can only be described as buildings in their own right, many generals, presidents etc entombed here, Eva's tomb is not as grandiose as some others, there is a long story behind it which I won't bore you with, its pretty busy around it cos most people go straight there, especially tour groups There is a sunday market outside which we meander ...

Eine willkommene, stille Oase im brodelnden Buenos Aires.

Nach einem richtig heissen Sommertag dreht das Wetter, es stürmt und regnet ohne Unterbruch bis zu meiner Abreise. Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina tommysaw... that provided we came back on the day of the game, two hours before kick-off we would get in quite easily.

Sunday came. Unfortunately, we couldn't even get past the first police barrier as the police had banned all match day tickets as they were worried about hooliganism. They were absolutely emphatic that there was no way of getting into the ground without a ticket.

As we went to walk away, the senior plain clothes officer called us back and handed ...
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina sheerin09... br>
Shortly we went down the road to a rather nice little restaurant that made amazing empanadas, and twenty minues later Haley came to join us. Afterwards we set off for La Boca. La Boca is a very colourful district of BA, although it can be quite dodgy if you go to the wrong places apparently. It is also home to Boca Juniors football team. We walked from San Telmo, through a big park; it took about twenty minutes. On arrival it was quite ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina alastair6... that Argentina doesn't really do small unless you get into the sticks. So that's what we did, we took another two hours bus (nothing these days!) and went to a German settlement village Villa General Belgrado. How bizarre to have a pure German town in the middle of the desert in Argentina??! Proper wooden chalets, cuckoo clocks, tankard beers the works. We decided to make the most of the sunshine and packed a picnic and beer and headed to the mountains (you ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina philandkatrina... bars and restaurants where there are tangodancers performing. I could not find the entrance of the famous Recoleta cemetery (Evita) and I was running late because as usual I stayed too long in the shopping area, which is very nice by the way! I just made it back in time on the boat and we could see a nice sunset. One day surely is NOT enough to see and feel Buenos Aires.
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina svdputte... listed the establishment within as "Casher". While it was fun to see the Parillas, Pizzerias and markets, our favorite was the Casher Auto Repair. I always said this thing was a racket! After an hour of exhilarating Semeticism, we walked a few blocks over to the "Konex", an industrial yard converted into a concert venue, so that we could meet the sisters Waizbrot for a performance of the percussion group "Bomba Tiempo". Eventually packed with thousands of multinational ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina jazzkat6... jacket shop called Uru and found the most amazing and beautiful jackets. Depending on choices they are made to measure in a matter of hours. Sadly the tailor had already left for the weekend and, as we were leaving on Monday morning, we missed out on a hand made leather jacket (this time!). Then it was time to do the coffee thing with the locals. What a pleasant introduction ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina jmabro... with bodies I didn't think existed. There was a great variety of travelers from all over the world that kept the conversation flowing.

I discovered after a few days that the ability to speak Spanish is an absolute necessity. I learnt this after eating the daily specials in a few restaurants, which turned out to be tripe, kidney and tentacles. After putting the above mentioned 'foods' into my mouth, I decided to enroll in Spanish lessons. Even if ...
