... lava and beautiful autumn vegetation. We then passed into the lava flows of the 2001 eruptions, which are still just bare rock and ash. The backdrop to the snow capped summit was stunning. We went for a bit of a walk around some craters, freezing but luckily clear enough for some sensational views. Then abruptly the mist rolled on, it was brilliant. ... Back to the room for a siesta and relax, dinner in the room again tonight. 13.11.14 Sicily to the mainland. Tomorrow we head off Sicily onto the mainland and make our way North towards France. Sicily, what did I think. Taormina and Cefalu were excellent. Siracusa, not so nice. We parked a short way from the vet and I took Tia in and was seen and out within ...

... hill from our hotel. Works off the limoncello. Part way down the hill to our hotel I stopped in the Giardino Pubblico which is a lovely lush shady park....created and bequeathed to the town by who other than an eccentric Englishwoman in the 1920's. It is quite a lovely tiered garden with odd pagodas, mosaic paths and a statue to commemorate World War II. Taormina is lucky to have had Florence Trevelyan create this garden to watch ...

... for your next visit to the "boot" of Italy.

The breakfast was great and even featured some fruit along with the usual pastries, yogurt, bread, cheeses and salamis. This morning the bread was hot out of the oven. If you are into cappuccinos they are offered at every breakfast. I'm a black coffee person so have had to find ways around this...as in adding just a bit of hot milk to the coffee. Today the coffee ...
