... Opposite the entrance are the sculptures of four soldiers, inspired by a picture of soldiers burying a comrade. There are also groups of three basalt-lava crosses as architectural features. As you walk through the entrance there are rooms either side. One has the names of the thousands of soldiers carved in the wooden panelling and the other has a wooden map showing locations of German cemeteries in Belgium, France & Germany. ... streets to the old Cloth Hall to go to the 'In Flanders' Field' Museum. This magnificent building was reduced to rubble during the war, like the rest of the town (and most other towns). They were mostly rebuilt as they had been, using the old plans because the people wanted to return to what they knew and to do it as quickly as possible. We have to keep reminding ourselves that the buildings aren't hundreds of years old as they seem.
