      ... on the road just before nine. Our host sent us off with an ominous warning about the coastal winds, he was not wrong!

      The D8 is a glorious road, hugging the coastline for most of the way. Today we had it almost to ourselves .       ... light is great (two fairly small suitcases on wheels, two small backpacks), but it also means you need to master the art of either a) washing clothes in the bathroom sink, or b) being smelly. Option ‘a’ works fairly well, for about a week and a half! Then no amount of sink-washing gets rid of the odour completely. Which we don’t notice until you leave the room to have breakfast, then come back to the room which has been shut up with your suitcases! Pe-ew!

      It was a wonderful few hours of relaxing, swimming, chatting and people watching.

      Then Charmaine and I enjoyed martinis and Croatian ham (prosciutto adjacent) at an outdoor café on the main street of Split overlooking the water. It was an extremely pleasant end to our visit.

      At 9 p .m. we returned to the ship for a debrief about Korcula, our adventure for tomorrow, and then we set sail.

      ... delayed getting to our hotel. Don't know if the bus delay or the tour operator was at fault, suspect the tour operator! It took us 2 hours to get to the hotel, which was a 7 minute bus ride through traffic congestion. Not impressed particularly as we were spun a line by the agent. Split reminds us of the port at Pireas. Congested, high rise buildings and lots of concrete and a bit grotty. This city is the most ...
