... In the middle of our whale watching, we took a side trip to view the Alaskan stellar sea lions. The are much bigger than the California sea lions. A male can weigh up to 1600 pounds while the females are 700 to 800 pounds. On the way back, we were treated to more humpback whale sightings. We took lots pictures but nothing spectacular. for 2 weeks in the entire year, humpback whales may bubble feed in pods- we saw it!!!! So what does that mean. Humpback whales usually feed individually but for 2 weeks of the year a single female may communicate with other whales and ask them if they want to bubble feed together- it is always a female who initiates it. Managed to catch the 4.30pm shuttle back to the ship and we decided to go up the Mt Roberts Tramway which is a cable car that goes up Mt Roberts. We thought we might have tea up there but didn't really fancy what they had on offer.
We saw their captive bald eagle who had been damaged in a fight. Moving on from there we did part of the nature trail and saw a squirrel playing in a pine tree. Every time he moved he sent down a shower of pine dust. ...
