So it was on to Taupo which has the largest lake in New Zealand (606 sq km), which they named oddly enough "Lake Taupo", this is situated in the middle of the north island and is in what is known as the Taupo Volcanic Zone......so it's going to be a bit hilly then?

we carried on along the SH4 passing the Makatote viaduct an emense fest of engineering for 1905.....it stretches across the river 80m above the water metal struts taking the railway line across the gorge..

next stop Ohakune which apparently is an awesome lively ski town in winter with shops and bars ...
