... over 1.5 million tourists each year as it is the source of a natural spring. It's wierd seeing a fast flowing river and then walking 50 metres "upstream" and there only being a trickle.. and then a bit further and no water... nothing but a big cliff straight up!
The town itself is nestled in a valley and is particularly pretty at dusk when rocks take on the colours of the sunset ...
... was a stop along the way. So we headed to our track. However, the signage was confusing and we ended up going downstairs only to learn we had gone right by our track, which was upstairs. We scurried onto the correct track and hopped on our train with only a couple of minutes to spare.
When we went to our reserved seats, a man was sitting in one of them. It turns out that we were on the wrong car and we had to ...
Curse the Mistral - it has been blowing for 3 days non stop and it is gale force and freezing cold. It appears to have abated slightly this afternoon and our local guide informed us that it stops after either 3 days, 6 days or 9 days so we are hopeful. Ok now despite his slight French accent, he pretty much said it in exactly the same way as we had been for the past 5 minutes. So we were all a bit confused by that encounter but glad to have directions for an in-TER-net cafe.
However our problems didn't end there. His directions were... confusing at best. We found ourselves wandering the streets of Avignon with no ...
... Our hosts were an Irish lady and her French husband who was very thankful that Glenn spoke a little French. He said that he had been speaking in English for 3 days and needed a break! The food included stuffed vegetables for entrée, duck for main, caramelised bananas and chocolate ice cream for dessert and of course cheese after that. We were spoilt with unlimited red wine (that was pretty damned good), and a digestif after that. We enjoyed the company of our hosts ...
