... built in the 1st or 2nd Century and held 20,000. It was used for chariot races and gladiator fights and is still in use today during the bullfighting season. Very cool! Forgot to take a photo unfortunately.

Up early to make use of free Wifi - that is Kim watched the sunrise while sitting outside a closed café and scabbing their Wifi! We then we hightailed it out of Arles and towards Spain.
... the security of this fortress. Brian scoped out several indents where floor beams had been inserted, and hinges for doors had been drilled, as well as a fireplace opening. After the 1830’s it’s been used for local bull-fights and has been undergoing extensive renovations. Sandblasters pierced our ears and evidence of new stone was everywhere. Part of me was sad to ...
Arles, Provence, France 2totango... not know how.
Perhaps they’ll listen now.
But what a sad story of a man impassioned by his art, yet rejected by all around him. To the point where only his brother befriended and supported him. Only selling 2 paintings during a lifetime, and even those that are given away ended up on hen-house doors and shot up by young passersby ...
... the proprietor and my friend misunderstood what he said about our reservations. She corrected him and he got all snooty on her and told her something like, "Well if that´s the way you want to talk then we can do it that way" and proceeded to give her some attitude. We finally went to our room and I did my best to control my laughing at him. It was pretty ridiculous for a mere misunderstanding.

... the wind to walk across the bridge in the evening to Avignon for dinner. This morning we went on a wine tour (I know, but it is too hard to resist) around the Cotes du Rhone with Phillipe, a very competant and helpful local guide. We ended up at Chateauneuf du Pape drinking wonderful reds which has been a wine hightlight of the trip - the village has the most amazing view of Provence ...
Avignon, Provence, France falkewind... since Susan and Brett last visited, but at €18.00 each, plus wine and wonderful coffee, it is extraordinary value.

The waiter replied that there had been two people from New Zealand having lunch the day before and several the previous week. So the word must have got around. Next time we might have to reserve.

We headed back to the camp as it was getting dark, and on our way came across this random little street band playing Michael Jackson. Pretty funny given the guy's French accent. Then got to take in the gorgeous views looking back at town and the Palace of the Popes as we crossed the river back to the campsite.
In the next exciting episode we're off to bustling, boiling Barcelona!
... went right in. The rocks were really slimy but I went in too. We actually swam in the river that has the "crues sauvage." It was freezing. I went in though. I had to. How could I say I had a chance to swim next to the Roman aqueduct and not do it? We swam over to the other side, got out of the water and climbed up some rocks. It was a diving cliff. I would say it was a good 20 feet up and it went straight down into the water. Andrew Brenner and ...
Uzes, France lparrin... and snow-tipped mountains...well it was gorgeous and our pictures look like something straight off a postcard. The rest of the town was unimpressive and in hibernation for the winter so we did not stick around... we imagine it would be even more stunning in summer with lots of activity on the lake...we also heard that it freezes over in winter and has lots of ice skating etc. We drove a further 20 kms to Lake Bohinj which is the largest permanent body of water in Slovenia. It was beautiful ...
