... There is a stunning view over the city. We very soon notice that the restaurant is full of generally older, very well dressed, posh looking French people all behaving very properly. It seems we have stumbled into a very posh restaurant. We would have been very happy with a roll and a drink sitting on a park bench. We are clearly very underdressed, and now feel very uncomfortable and out of place. I'm surprised they let us in. I feel the eyes of ...

I had my first Airbnb experience whilst in Lyon. For those who don't know Airbnb is a community of people who either have accommodation available or are looking for somewhere to stay. I stayed with a lovely girl called Leila an her cat Oiseau (it means bird in french). It was a great experience to stay and chat to a local. I will happily be ...

After 21 to 22 degrees yesterday, today is 10 degrees but not raining. We cruised all night, leaving Viviers at 6:15 pm last night and arriving in Vienne, just 32 km South of Lyon at 8:30 am this morning, having passed through seven locks. This morning was a walking tour of Vienne. Walking tours aren't always as easy as they should be because the French have a habit of letting their dogs poop wherever they like and not picking up after ...

Our ship arrived in Belleville, France overnight. This morning we left the ship at 8:15am for a wine tasting and visit to Oingt. We had a lovely drive through the very picturesque French countryside (although we did pass 3 Macdonalds on the way!) We drove along some narrow country roads and wound our way past the vineyards and the bus had a few tight squeezes through some small French towns. We arrived at the vineyard where ...

Last night we stayed in a gorgeous little castle off the beaten track close to two small towns called Vienne and Fontagner in the south of France, along the Rhone River. It had a very interesting history with Roman ruins and pottery underneath in the basement dating back to 5th Century BC when the area was known as Gaul. Pontius Pilate was exiled to the region close to Vienne and Fontagner and legend has it it was ...
