... ll embark on an included tour to explore the beautiful Beaujolais region north of Lyon, home to 13 French wine appellations. You’ll see historic highlights including the Pierres Dorees—villages built of golden stone—and the 11th-century church of St. Matthews. Then you’ll meet a local vintner and taste a sampling ...

Our ship arrived in Belleville, France overnight. This morning we left the ship at 8:15am for a wine tasting and visit to Oingt. We had a lovely drive through the very picturesque French countryside (although we did pass 3 Macdonalds on the way!) We drove along some narrow country roads and wound our way past the vineyards and the bus had a few tight squeezes through some small French towns. We arrived at the vineyard where ...

Last night we stayed in a gorgeous little castle off the beaten track close to two small towns called Vienne and Fontagner in the south of France, along the Rhone River. It had a very interesting history with Roman ruins and pottery underneath in the basement dating back to 5th Century BC when the area was known as Gaul. Pontius Pilate was exiled to the region close to Vienne and Fontagner and legend has it it was ...

Today we plan to travel south down the Rhone river valley on the local roads through the villages not using the main freeway. The first challenge was to programme the GPS and after about 40 mins gave up. The difficulty is that when you enter the name of the town you are presented with a list which might be 10 or so and you have to know which one it is or the post code no? We got advice of how to get to the freeway with ...

      Day 10 - Vienne

It was surprisingly cold, rainy, and windy out in the morning. We had free time to walk around Vienne, but, even for ************ians, it was uninviting. So, we spent the morning reading and chatting with our fellow passengers.

After lunch, we went for a guided walking tour of Vienne. This is an area of France where there are a lot of Roman ruins. It is awe inspiring to see ...
