Next day we walk about 100 metres from our hotel to the entrance of the chateau Azay-le-Rideau. The recent rain has swollen the rivers and the Indre is up and the water is a muddy brown colour as it races past the chateau, which is built out into the river. It is cold and grey and there is light rain. The attic of the chateau has massive 16th oak beams and the ceiling is quite high because the walls were built higher than floor level to support the roof beams. We take a turn around ...
... found the pretty village of Courville-sur-Eure & stopped for a 2 course €11 lunch, Peter got a surprise as his salad fruit de mer looked like uncooked prawns as they were transparent - I asked the waiter if they were cooked & he said no they were marinated (guess that's raw then!). Early start this morning to try finish early to give the old body a chance to recover! Left this morning at 7am and arrived Mamers just after 2pm which is respectable I suppose. Stopped to take photos, fed a horse and had lunch along the way, but it was a good 83 miles with decent roads.

... We were somewhat disappointed at how scruffy everywhere was, rather like Chatham. We took a few phone photos of cars, and the trams coming up the quite steep street, so we shall have to see what they come out like. We left
