          ... 31 acre desert right down the road from the sometimes bustling downtown of Freeport but it’s there hidden away behind the trees. They are only open between May 5th and October 15th and I suggest going in the early season or the late season because the mica in the sand (glacier silt actually) reflects the sun and makes the desert 10-15 degrees warmer than the surrounding areas.
