... were secretly pleased we had skipped dinner the night before. spent the day relaxing in the shade, catching up on our blog, and wandering the back streets of Ayvalik. Dinner at the neighbouring restaurant was delightful, fish of course (being a friday), and a selection of meze (traditional turkish dishes). Enjoyed meeting and talking with the local fishermen, tried a sample of fresh cooked mussels, Ken not so keen on the spicy addition to the mussels but Tim and I loved it.
... terrace housing was unique to the site. The mens latrines were interesting complete with hot air ducts and water channels, no sign of facilities for the women though ?! Most impressed with the Library of Celsus (see photos). The theatre is large but not as well preserved as others we have seen (we are getting fussy about our ruins now!). ... way to Gallipoli. Visited Lone Pine, Chunik Bair, and Anzac cove, it's all very sobering, some who died were only as young as 17yrs old and lied about there identity so they could go to war. It would have been nice to spend a bit more time their but we have to be down at Kas in two days. It has been long long day.
