    Riding through Troy, PA

A travel blog entry by backroadtravels on Sep 26, 2015

The first time I road through Troy, PA, I was traveling by minivan on Rt. 6 (a nice ride in itself). It was nice to see the town again. It's a pretty town in northern PA. The one thing that amazed me about Troy are the number of old, fancy houses. Given the surrounding areas and no obvious signs of industry, the town appears to have had an affluent past and a seemingly healthy future.

Didn't realize I had gone almost 130 miles already, just cruising along Rt. 15 through upstate PA enjoying the change in scenery as it was, ever so slightly, beginning to take on the look of Fall. Rte 6 is the 2nd longest continuous highway in USA; from Bishop, CA to Cape Cod. This PA scenic portion is 1 rolling hill after another with farm lands interspersed between forests, rivers, small towns of yesterday-year......and vista views of the fall foliage on every ridge. This "Endless Mountain" area part of the Allegheny Mountains is rich in Civil War, Native Indian, French Azilum settlement histories.....and currently a booming fracking area. Vivid fall colors explode over every ...

    ... much to see.

We stop at a small stream for a break and see butterflies everywhere. One of those moments that are really special.

We stop in a small town and buy an amazing deli roll for lunch which was big enough to share, from an Italian deli called Fetta's. It was loaded with ham, turkey, salami and salad - so good.

There are a lot of other motor bikes on the ...

This is certainly not my first rodeo. I have been to a variety of places, with all types of people, groups, and agendas, but this is certainly going to be an interesting adventure. Last year I traveled to China with 13 other teachers and two, absolutely amazing, group leaders. As a teacher, I found I can find ways to see the world and pay very little. After the trip was over; however, I was dumped right back into the my ...
