WW2 - celebration - on my 1st 2 nights in Antwerp several celebrations were underway to commemorate the 70 years since liberation day for WW2. Friday night was my favourite as it was an old style music and jazz band celebration with people dancing and a great atmosphere. You could even see the tanks the British and American soldiers used. ... cups of tea and glasses of wine, I realized something. Belgium, and particularly Brussels, is very much its own place. If you don't like it, you could always leave and there's little use in comparing it to its neighbours. When I returned from Munich, I realized I was actually a tiny bit happy to be back in BXL.

It's boring, it's quirky,, it's artsy, sketchy, safe, welcoming and weird. This is Brussels, and I'm determined to live it up while I'm here.

... as a Dutch and German girl who were studying together in Amsterdam. We had agreed earlier that our first night in Antwerp would be a quiet one, but that quickly changed when the Aussie girl convinced us to go out together in the city. We bought a pizza and ate that before commencing a few rounds of drinking games with the remaining vodka from the night before.

Downstairs we met some other hostel stayers who were also heading out that night and we left together ...
