Our arrival at the Horton House B&B yesterday afternoon was, as Craig has explained, somewhat dampened. Our host's nephew, Scott, is a real character, with a quick line in banter that rather bamboozled us. Settling in, it became clear that our bed rocks like a boat, there is a general shabbiness, and everywhere there are ornaments, mirrors, and pictures crammed onto every surface, flat or vertical. I accept that Mandy-Jane and I are in something of a minority amongst our friends and relatives in that we take enjoyment from country music. What sort of lunacy? Red Rocks Amphitheatre, home to bands such as the Beatles, Sting (last week apparently....) and Mumford and Sons - just had to be visited! Amazing setting, a fabulous huge amphitheatre between two enormous rocks, and it is a lesson in multi-use, something we could learn from. This afternoon, a film but this morning, bizarrely being used for ...

At several places along Colorado's Front Range where the Great Plains meet the edge of Rocky Mountains red sandstone layers have been pushed upwards into slanted or even horizontal formations. Such locales include the Flatirons near Boulder, Roxborough State Park southwest of Denver, and Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. Another famous such formation is Red Rocks directly west of Denver between the towns of Golden and Conifer.
