We left Riva to head for Kaunas, with its magnificent castle, Town Hall and hot air ballooning in abundance.

No screens due to a strained "V" finger from previous flights so suffice it to say we are in Kaunas, Lithuania.

(hostel owner) was dabbled in progressive elctronica dj'ing



There was a lot to the city and so much of it felt boheamn. From the
open air art to the vigen place down the road and from the devil museum
to the "jump up" (a karioky place)

... for why we found the place so much more alive than Vilnius. Strangely, the city is significantly more modernised than the capital: there is free wi-fi all along the main street, a large number of glassy Western style cafes, banks and hotels are dotted around and as we got our bearings we even saw a number of grassroots parties - just speakers on street corners with large numbers of people gathered around them, dancing. Communist statues of grim-looking military figures stare ...

... on to the rePUBlic and hid under the the rain covers. in the hostel there was a shelf listing all the lithuanian beers worth drinking and i had taken a picture of it so in the bar i showed the barman the picture and asked if he had any of them. he did so we orderd 3 and whent and sat near the entrences so we could smoke and watch the storm. lightnight flaished behind the streetlamps and the rain overpowerd the fountin outside the bar. ...
