Historical Traveler Reviews Architects Inn - George Champlin Mason House Newport

Wonderful inn

from jechath

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Architect's Inn. The house itself is really beautiful and feels so authentic. The inn completely lived up to its reviews. The room was very clean and provided a very romantic environment. The breakfast was very good as well. When we return to Newport, we will definitely choose the Architect's Inn

Impeccable B&B in a great location

from putterace

Impeccable B&B in a great location in Newport. Short walking distance to nearly everthing, including the popular wharf area with its stores and great restaurants as well as the ocean cliff walk and so many historic sights. Location is perfect, close to everything, but on a quiet street. Car stayed parked most of the time, which made our visit so easy . Newport is a great place to visit, we stayed two nights. B&B hosts were helpful and charming and the house itself was perfect for relaxing. A+ experience all around and most affordable.

Exceeds all reviews and expectations

from nycmeisie

It is seldom that a place exceeds the reviews and expectations - but Sheila and Harlan ensure that every need is met - without you even having to ask! We highly recommend the Architects Inn. It is in a beautifully quiet area that is still within walking distance to the hub of Newport. We will certainly be returning.

Great B & B

Even though we thoroughly researched bed and breakfasts in Newport you never know until you get there how they will really be. This is one where the actual experience (my wife and I spent 4 evenings) was better that expected. Our suite was unbelievably spacious (Perry suite); it was like having half of a duplex with separate sitting area, bedroom and beautiful and modernized bathroom (the pictures on the website do not do it justice). Room was very clean as were common areas. While still retaining its charm all the plumbing and such is modern . There is even free internet acess.

Inn is in residential section of Newport, reasonably close to harbor but extremely quiet . Porch is great place to relax. Finally, the hospitality of Sheila and Harlan is extraordinary striking that great balance between helpful and informative but not intrusive.

We will stay here the next time we go to Newport.

The Perfect Getaway

Just returned from spending two nights at the Architect's Inn in Newport and we couldn't have had a better time. Sheila and Harlan are wonderful hosts, very relaxed, full of useful information if you have questions and very accommodating. The location is splendid for a start. It's a short walk to First Beach in one direction and to the fast scene on the waterfront in another. It's located on a quiet street about a ten minute walk from Thames. Our room was fantastic. It included a very large bedroom, a separate sitting room (with room for a rollaway cot if needed) and a large, modern bathroom with shower stall and tub. Both rooms had window a/c, but the bedroom has nice ventillation. Both rooms have small tvs with cable hook-up, one with a VCR and the other with a DVD player. The room has a stock of DVDs and the parlor downstairs has a lot of tapes and books to borrow. Breakfast is family style in the dining room so you get to meet the other guests and the food is delicious. We had French toast one morning and Eggs Benedict the next. Some snacks and sweets are put out in the afternoon. Our room had a refridgerator too. The Inn is nicely furnished in period style. There's a wonderful porch where we had drinks one night. It's the best. We'll be certain to stay there again.

Sheila and Harlan are wonderful!

Just came back from a weekend at the Architect's Inn. I must say it was a most pleasant experience. The accomodations were superb. We stayed in the Redwood Room which was beautifully decorated, romatic, and extremely comfortable. Complete with fireplace and claw foot bath tub. Sheila and Harlan the Innkeepers were extremely gracious. The homemade breakfast of french toast one morning and eggs benedict the next was superbly served on the finest of china and tasted yummy! During the evenings delicious homemade treats were set out for their guests. Great location, quiet..but close to everything. Would absolutely stay there again on our next visit to Neport.

Absolutely perfect!

My boyfriend (now fiance) stayed at the Architect's inn the weekend before Valentine's Day. We were looking for a romantic b&b under the $150 range. We found it! Everything about the Architect's Inn was amazing, with so much attention to detail throughout the house! The working fireplace was soooo great and charming, as were the inn keepers, Sheila and Harlan. They were very friendly and wonderful hosts. We spend a fantastic day walking around town, and then went for a romantic dinner at 22 Bowen's Wharf. In fact, the night and weekend were so romantic, my boyfriend proposed to me over dessert!

The b&b is so clean and decorated right out of a magazine. We were there the weekend of the Blizzard, and even were stranded in the B&B all of Sunday. No complaints!!!!!! In fact, I have NOTHING negative to say about my stay.

I highly recommend the Architect's Inn, and hope you have the positive experience that we enjoyed so very much. We will be back soon, without a doubt!

Thank you for such a memorable experience.

Quiet, relaxation.

Our stay at the Architect's Inn was a pleasant experience. Our hosts made us feel comfortable, and were always around to see if we needed anything, but were never intrusive. They made us feel at home in their home. Our room was impeccably neat, clean and quite comfortable. Breakfast was served in the diningroom and we shared the table with two other couples. The food was homemade and delicious. In addition to breakfast the diningroom was always open for snacks and drinks. The homemade chocolate chip cookies were a hit with my husband, but no matter how many he ate, the plate was always full. The Inn is centrally located and within walking distance to all. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing stay, where all your needs will be attended to, then the Architect's Inn is for you.

The Architect's Inn is a real treat!

The Architect's Inn is fabulous! We stayed at the Inn for our third wedding anniversary. It was our first time in Newport, but that wasn't a problem--Sheila made us feel comfortable right away. She greeted us on arrival, showed us around the lovely bed and breakfast, made sure we were aware of all of the amenities, and then, gave us a short orientation about things to do in the area. She was so helpful, we had no problem deciding what to see! Our room was beautiful and comfortable and the breakfasts we ate were fabulous--the french toast was amazing! Sheila and Harlan were both extremely attentive during breakfast; they made us feel comfortable and welcome. The Inn is conveniently located in the heart of Newport--within walking distance of the wharf area, which houses many great resturaunts and shops, and also within walking distance of the beautiful cliff walk. The Inn also has a really great last minute special that we took advantage of; our stay was well worth it at full price, but saving money was an added bonus. We had a really wonderful time and definatly intend to revisit the Architect's Inn during our next stay in Newport!

A Bed and Breakfast that cannot be topped!

from anonymous

The Architects Inn is a fabulous place to stay when in Newport. The owners, Sheila and Harlan Tyler are the most warm, charming, and gracious hosts that my husband and I have ever encountered in our travels.

The bed and breakfast has beautifly decorated rooms that are comfortable and private. Breakfast is gourmet every morning and served on the patio during the summer. During the late afternoon you can relax with iced tea, or other beverages and home baked cookies and brownies which melt in your mouth. Every antique and artifact has its place and is all decorated to the 9's. It is so perfectly perfect and clean that you know there is a love of this inn by its owners. The inn is located within walking distance to the heart of downtown Newport and is also within walking distance of the beach.

We obviously loved our stay and would definitely go back.
