... and aahing the whole way. We found a spot along the water's edge, hung our legs over the side, and just sat for a while, looking out over the bay at the water and the yachts, and thinking how lucky we were. We took this opportunity to dip our toes in the Adriatic. It was chilly but not as cold as I had expected.

Our main event for the day was to make the short hike up to the Hvar Fortress for views from above. It looked ...

... we were! The couple who own the buildings have set a restaurant of sorts there - no running water or electricity - and Trafalgar tours, as well as many tourists, visit regularly. We sat in a terraced courtyard under olive trees and enjoyed a magnificent spread of cold meats and cheeses, then meats cooked in pizza ovens under clay hoods - basically steamed! There was veal, lamb and octopus and it was absolutely delicious, all ...

We finally reached our hotel in Split (Hotel Globo) about 17:30 after a long tiring day. The room was very comfortable with two single beds and a modern bathroom (although it had the goofy half-glass shower door which I find awkward). We had some time for a short rest, as we didn’t have to meet for the group dinner until 19:15.

The group met in front of the hotel and we walked to the restaurant for our group dinner, which took 15-20 ...

... in Hvar, with so many boats, sometimes it can be as late as 8pm. Boat upon boat, you have to cross each one, depending how far back from the wharf you are moored - watch your step between the moving boats! Apparently at the height of summer, you had to cross up to 15 boats, but luckily, the max we'll have to jump across is 5!

We make good time getting into Hvar around 5pm, and head up the Spanjola (Fortress) for an amazing ...

... Europe. Turns out we would end up seeing Brooke and Angie in other places along our Balkans adventure. Sharing stories and having a good laugh over some included alcohol was a good way to wind away the hours and before we knew it the time was 1am. Finished with some fun socialising we headed upstairs to bed.

It had been a great day and in contrast to the way we normally travel we managed some truly relaxing time doing very little. A welcome change!!!
