... cold and wet.

today we have more discussion time as delegates and tomorrow we´re all visiting different churches and worshipping with them. that will be exciting. i am just really enjoying worshipping and fellowshipping with so many different people from all different cultures and backgrounds. even amidst all our differences we can come together to praise God! He is so good to us!

I´ll try to write more when i can... whenever that is!

south american nightmare

After heavy rains our exit from the campsite was less than dignified, taking as it did a tractor, a trailer and a 4x4 to pull us out of the muck. To provide more weight, we were herded like cattle into the trailer and were jolted around like something out of a ride you'd pay for in universal studios theme park. An hour or so later we pulled up to these Jesuit ruins where only a third of us were brave enough to dismount jack into the still v inclement weather conditions ...

Paraguay

... I guess we were lucky. Arriving in Cuidad del Este is a different world. It is a chaos of people trying to sell cheap electronics, which are generally very expensive in South America. Cuidad del Este is a tax free haven, which attracks a lot of Brazilians. From Cuidad del Este we took a bus to Asuncion. The bus was dirty but comfortable. I really enjoyed the 6 hour bus ride looking out the window at the Paraguayan landscapes. Paraguay ...

Paraguay: The road less travelled...

... to Emily and we agreed to see if we could find an earlier bus at the other bus company's office. This was met with the news that no bus was running until Monday, this was then confirmed in the Fletcher bus office by the same enthused young man who had told me it left at three. This left us with quite a problem...

Luckily for us, in the bus stop, we were approached by two German brothers who had found themselves in a similar predicament although, having asked ...

Paraguay - land of the unknown

... around or guarding something with a wide range of powerful firearms. In the evening, we headed back into the centre to try and have something to eat , it did not prove to be easy as there seemed to be a mass exodus of people from the city centre on a Friday night, literally deserted, so weird, we wondered for ages and hardly saw anyone, so there were not many restaurants open, in the end after a lot of walking around we settled for the tasty delights of burger ...

... but I'll tell you about it a bit here as well. Every year the Gender and Development committee of PC/PY raises money to give out scholarships to deserving applicants. Its a super competitive program and the students who recieve the scholarships all have 100% perfect grades. They also have to write a couple essays. Students in PY are required to wear uniforms to school, which the families have to ...

Don´t cry for me, Paraguay!

Asuncion - good for fake watches and sunglasses

... slums are built next to it and are not pleasant. I really don´t have much more to say. The people have found us a novelty and this is the first time it has happened on this trip. I guess not many people come here. They speak Spanish here rather than Portuguese and I have struggled to adopt my Portugish to this. However, I am still able to order chopp (beer) which is all that matters. Anyway after filling five hours with looking at shops ...

Day 20 - Crazy Days In Paraguay.

A crazy few days in Paraguay so far, where it seems that 90% of the population do not have jobs and just sit around all day drinking some kind of herbal tea, while the other 10% are taxi drivers.Taxi amigo? We got the cheaper `semi rapid` bus to Asuncion, to save money. We soon started wishing we had forked out the extra 50p or whatever it was to get the luxury bus, as our bus seemed to stop every 5 minutes ...
