          It was a beautiful drive to Ashland from Eugene, with a nice pic-nic stop at a rest area (Full Circle Creamery cheese from Kate & Brian, Crackers and fruit from Shelia & Larry, some cookies, salted almonds and a great view of the cherry blossoms).           ... limited visibility due to smoke. And indeed the smoke became thick. It was easy to tell by the mountainous nature of the highway that we were in some beautiful country, but unfortunately our views were restricted by the heavy smoke. It went on for well over 50 miles.
