... inschatten is hier nog niet m'n ding. Nee, thuis ook niet. De volgende gaat pas vier uur later, dus ik rij nog een extra stukje, en doe brunch op een prachtig stukje strand, uiteraard nadat ik daarvoor aan iemand toestemming heb gevraagd. Bizar spektakel op de ferry: letterlijk dozen vol afval worden vanuit de passagiersruimte, waar iedereen een film zit te kijken, overboord gekieperd. Ik zit op het stille achterdek en kijk om me heen - yep, er staan toch echt gewoon overal afvalemmers ...

... bit more raunchy…..cannot wait!!

Late afternoon back to pack and pay bills as we are off in taxi to airport at 4.30am tomorrow.

SPECIAL MESSAGE OF INTEREST

We fly tomorrow (Wednesday 2nd December) on the 7am flight to Tonga and we land at 8.30am BUT it will be Thursday 3rd December…..will we ever get this day of our lives back again.

Its December time – we hope Izzy & Joe have sent their letters to Santa!

... children worked hard and eventually built some simple accommodation for the few tourists there were. This grew into Aggie Greys and everyone seems to go there for a meal or drinks at some time.

Back to hotel in Taxi for 4 Tala (£1) and into swimming pool…..lovely. Chatted to members of large New Zealand family especially 'T’ who was a South Sea Islander and a professional tattooist using original skills and implements. Chatted about Byron and Clares ...

... and is one of the few beaches on Upolu where the surf actually makes it to the shore. Most of the surf breaks up on the multitude of reefs that lie just off-shore, which can be a danger for surfers. After another swim, we headed back to Apia via the Cross Island Road, passing through the clouds as rain covered the mountains.

... free (all of them actually) so could we please have our own. Their looks said; "But... you're friends which is like family and why wouldn't you want to sleep side by side??" It was impossible to explain the desire for your own private fale in a culture that didn't understand - or believe in - the concept of person space. But, in the end, we had our own right next to each other. The fales were fine; the food, though not great, was exactly what we expected to find ...

... Planet ne mentionait ça nul part et c'est bien dommage. Si on avait su qu'il fallait à chaque fois repasser par Apia, on ne serait pas rester là bas les deux premiers jours. Après Apia, notre première destination en direction de la plage était Lolamanu, un coin populaire au Sud Est de l'ile d'Upolu. Notre première experience dans le bus s'est plutôt bien passé. Tout le monde avait une place assise et le bus n'est parti qu'avec une quinzaine de minutes de retard ...

... nature path and at one point we could even see the southern coastline. When we finally made it all the way up we came out to clearing and the tomb was surrounded by a beautiful view. Amazing! I'll let the pictures speak for them self... We decided to take the short way down and that turned out to be a lucky decision, the path was a lot dryer and it only took about half an hour to get down ...

... inside and it had a beautiful but eerie charm to it. The mist kind of added to that. From what we could see of the gardens they definitely lived up to their reputation but we hope to see them again in better light. The rest of the tour consisted of swimming in fresh water pools in the Togitogiga Recreation Reserve and in the warm sea at one of the south coast beaches. A beautiful way to spend the day.
