Night Sky & Earth Tremors

8:30 PM - Pete and Jill at Alpine Vista
B&B, set back in the small suburbs beside hwy 8 in Lake Tekapo,
were waiting for us in their living room when we pulled up, and Pete
came down to the driveway to help us with our luggage- he was a tall
and skinny Mr. Rogers type guy and said "Jolly Good", and "Good As
Gold", a lot. We had a modern bedroom in their large modern home, much
like the suburban American style that we know of. After dropping off
our stuff we headed rig...

Not to be defeated this time we continued along and just when we thought the rain couldn't get harder, it did!! It was proper english torrential rain and if there had have been no signposts, we would not have even ...

The Bluest Lakes

... of snow capped peaks and a bright blue sky which we hadn't seen for a few days. After teaching LJ the correct way on how to skim stones we walked the short distance to the other side of town where there was a statue of a Collie Dog, that's right they have a statue to commemorate the hard working sheep dog. There was also an old church that was just on the shore of the lake and had a great view through the windows. We placed some shrapnel in the collection tin and the lady said ...

So here I am living it up in the staff house for Tailor made backpackers, I’ve got my own room, they cooked me dinner when I arrived and generally this is a pretty sweet visit. We have been up to a really random number of things.

Yesterday, Jovana had to work in the morning so I stayed in bed for a while, then I felt a bit bad about letting everyone work while I laid around so went and helped a little, this did start a interesting ...

Lake Tekapo and The Church of the Good Shepherd

The flight from Auckland to ChristChurch was a preview of the gorgeous scenery to come. As we flew over to South Island, we saw snowcapped mountains and blue sea. We were very tired on the 4 hour drive to Lake Tekapo, but the scenery was so wonderful that we stayed wide awake. Bob did a good job adjusting to driving on the left. It was only a little bit scary. We saw lots and lots of sheep -- and cute baby lambs. There were also many deer farms; it seems sad that ...

Harleynut Tackles The Big White Cloudy Campervan

... tree above flattening the wagon. Did I tell you how much I like campervans? I found my triggerfinger twitching invouluntarily for the non-existent foxtel remote, as I drifted into fitful sleep. Day 7 - It fair pelted down all night and was still turning it on as we woke. We had a basic brekky, then hit the road-river early. Not long into the drive, we encountered a sign proclaiming "Mirror Lakes". Well, guess we'd better stop for this! We were the only ones there. A pretty spot, but ...

... make our 11:45 AM bus. The trail continued to be awesome, as we stayed high on the ridgeline. We passed 174 meter Emerald Falls. Sweet as! The weather held, no rain to be seen. We took a sttep decent to Lake Howden, yet another beautiful lake in Fiordland National Park (which is where most of the track is... I think that the first half is in Mt. Aspiring National Park). We arrived at "The Divide" with plenty of time to ...

The Garden City

... officicals so Joel eats it while in the queue. Now that we are deemed no terrorist or bio threat we look forward to exploring this country. We stay at the central YHA which feels much more English - modest and small-scale compared to some of the ultra modern city ones in Oz. We unpack our stuff in room 121 then I go to the loo and accidently go to room 120 which the key ...

Christchurch and Canterbury

There are some very nice palces to eat in Christchurch, particularly down near the river, where you can dine out al fresco. It also seems to be very easy to get about without the need for a car which is nice. There are trams you can take and there is an evening Tram that has a restaraunt on itso you can ...
