... mountains, and it didn't disappoint! Even the hotels and fast food restaurants stuck with the alpine theme! We soaked in the atmosphere for a bit before heading to the cabin, which was an adventure in itself! It truly was in the middle of nowhere, with dirt tracks of at least 30 degree inclination proving a challenge for our wee Ford Fiesta. We managed though, and the result was so very worth ...

... some hiking, and lots of sleep! I drove here in a rainstorm which was the perfect entry. Again, this California girl can't get enough water from the sky. I've seen some rather large cascading falls, Minnehaha Falls I believe, but have most enjoyed hanging on the deck of the boathouse talking to ducks, swimming, and exploring the homes and boat houses of Murray Cove. ... up for it, we would slackpack a bit that afternoon. We left our packs in the cabin and got a shuttle out to a gap 6 miles away and hiked back in. It was a good idea in principle, but I spent most of the hike complaining in my head, wondering why I decided to hike more that day and cursing every mountain that came between me and my bed. Without packs we made good time, and Mooch and I got back around 7:30, 2 hours and 15 minutes after we started, and the other guys shortly ...

... a German-themed town. Too touristy for us but Betty's General Store is a must. Walk to the back for fresh soup and sandwiches.

Two active gold mines are situated in Dahlonega and a tour is a must. Learn to pan and make some of the entrance fee back in real gold. I even bought a gold pan - just in case the opportunity arises again. One never knows...
