... we noticed the snow had been thrown around by the spinning front tires. Larry half skidded to a stop and answered the woman who was flagging us down, to see if she needed help. She said she couldn’t go up or down and asked us to call for help for her when we reached Aspen because there was no service for her cell phone. We quickly drove out of the snow and called 911 when we regained cellular service. I hope she makes it off the ...

Arriving at our next RV park, the nearest to Aspen, we were a little disappointed after our stay at Tiger Run Resort. Aspen Basalt Campground is the usual graveled park with mature trees and roomy pull-throughs, but it’s 22 miles from Aspen which requires a one-hour transit for each ...
We awoke to a lot of fog on the Grand Mesa. Drove out the Lands End Rd but the view was about 10 ft this day. Back to 65, down to 70, and heading East toward Denver. Started hearing a humming sound (not good) so we pulled over ...

In Georgetown we stopped to see the Rail-loop, made famous because the train does a loop to gain the height required. All a bit of mountain history, tied up with the mines. This small town like so many other are all so pretty, well keep, artistic and seem viable.

Just down the road from Frisco is a Colorado Scenic Byway that covers about 100 miles. It goes from I70 south to Leadville and then north back to I70 by a different route. We then short across I70 to Vail and then back on home.
Leadville was once the second largest city in Colorado, second only to Denver, with a population of nearly 20,000. Of course that was back during the silver mining days of ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Allaire Timbers Inn Breckenridge
Can't wait to go back again
My husband and I discovered Allaire Timbers about 3 years ago and usually visit once or twice per year. It's where we bring our family and friends when they're in visiting CO because it's a guaranteed wonderful experience. We truly love Kathy & Jack's hospitality. It's just the right combination of a great inn, a relaxing experience and beautiful surroundings.
My husband and I have stayed at Allaire Timbers Inn on many occasions, and we absolutely LOVE IT. The owners are two of the friendliest, nicest people we know. In addition to our other trips there, we spent our honeymoon at Allaire, and we couldn't have picked a more romatic, relaxing, PERFECT place.
We love Allaire Timbers
We have stayed with Kathy and Jack for at least six years and have
never found them to be anything but great hosts. They will do or fix
anything that needs fixing. They look out for you the way you like to be looked after graciously and pleasently. I have never seen anything like
the statement made by that person who is listed on the site and they are not only wrong but they should be taken to task by somone. They are 100% wrong .
Hurrah For Allaier Timbers.
Allaire Timbers is "our place!"
My fiancee and i Have been staying at Allaire Timbers religiously for over 4 years now. From the first time we stayed there, it became "our place" - the spot we go when we want time that is all about the two of us, when we can relax, be treated wonderfully, enjoy the beautiful surroundings and remember why we are together. Jack and Kathy have facilitated some of the best times we have ever had together and our weekends in Breck always end up being wonderful - all because everything from top to bottom at Allaire Timbers is A+. When I decided to propose to Erin last Christmas, there was no doubt in my mind where I would do it - on our balcony of our room at Allaire Timbers. It was PERFECT!!! Kathy even let me stash the champagne in their fridge for safe keeping.
My spouse and I have been staying at the Allaire Timbers Inn for years now...it is our favorite B & B in Colorado, our getaway from the stresses of our very intense careers. When we are both overwhelmed in our jobs, we have a "let's dream about Breckenridge and the Allaire Timbers" dinner evening just so we can remember that Allaire exists and we will eventually sit in the hot tub on the back porch that overlooks the scenery of lovely Breckenridge.....it is our custom to try to get there from quite a distance away at least twice a year.
Beautiful, quiet and wonderful inn
We have found this inn the be the very best we have experienced. Jack and Kathy are wonderful hosts; attentive, yet respecting everyone's privacy. The rooms are impecibly clean and the food is outstanding. It is away from the hubub of town, with a lovely veiw from the hill of the mountains and lights of Breckenridge. The innkeepers make every effort to accomodate any special requests and needs of their guests and people tend to come back year after year. I do think THAT is the best rating of any resort facility; return guests! As for us, we would not consider staying anywhere else in Summit County.
Wanting to surprise my wife with a weekend away for out Ten Year Anniversary, I chose this wonderful Bed and Breakfast. And, I'm so glad I did. It was the most romantic weekend we have ever shared together. As soon as we walked in the front door, we were greeted by both the hostess as well as the innkeeper, Kathy. We were given a tour of the place and then escorted to our room, which was incredible. The beautiful log cabin room was highlighted by a stone fireplace and a private hot tub. In addition to this, the service was top notch. Coffee was served in the hallway each morning at 6 am. Then, we enjoyed a delightful breakfast of homemade breads, fruits, and a delicious entree prepared and served by the inkeeper herself. In the afternoon, snacks and drinks were served, followed by cider and fresh cookies at night. It just so happens that my wife and I were the ones staying below the previous reviewer ("A Bed and Breakfast Nightmare") when they caused their hot tub to leak into our bathroom. I went to inform the inkeepers who personally came to check out the problem. If anyone should have been annoyed, it should have been us. But, Jack and Kathy were more than gracious in helping rectify the problem immediately. Since our return home, we have been telling all our friends and family to go stay at the Allaire Timbers Inn as soon as they get the chance. I know we plan to make this a regular vacation spot for us.
If you are looking for a place to stay in beautiful Breckenridge do not get suckered into this establishment. This Bed and Breakfast was a horrible experience for us. We were on our honeymoon and this we thought would be the perfect romantic place to stay, well we were TERRIBLY DISAPPOINTED!! The hospitality of the inn keepers was next to nothing, they did not have the common curtiosy to meet us as we checked in or while we stayed there for 2 nights. We did not meet the inn keepers until we were checking out. The fabulous breakfast that they raved about was nothing my dog would even eat, lemon waffles and nut bagels. It was disgusting, and they really did not even care to see why we never ate there. We had to eat donuts from Daylight Donuts that were much better then the breakfast we paid for in the establisment. We stayed in the summit suite which they claim to be the best room, it is also the most expensive which we found to be quite a rip off. This room is equipped with a spa, but when we went into it for approximatly 3 minutes some man came upstairs and told us to get out that the spa that we were in was flooding the room below us. This caused them to drain the spa allowing us never to have the chance to use it again. The spa was broken due to their ill maintance man who did not know how to fix it. They called a spa repair man out and that took two days. We could not believe that when we arrived home to check our bank statements that this establishment charged my credit card for the damages of the room below us WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION!! I will also be contacting the Chamber of Commerce and the Bed and Breakfasts of Colorado to let them know of my disappointment. For anyone wanting a great place to stay there are TONS of places in Breckenridge to stay. Try any of them, the Motel 6 is better then this dump.
If you are looking for a relaxing vacation - the Allaire Timbers is it. The bed and breakfast has a lovely log cabin feel, but with all the amenities. All the interior is pine, and the lobby/sitting area is cozy, right next to a fireplace. Overlooking the lobby is a small loft area, filled with books and magazines. The rooms really are superb, each with it's own little balcony overlooking the mountains. The beds are comfortable, each with their own colorado theme. Rooms come with feet warmers and his and her robes. Breakfast is wonderful - try the homemade granola! If the weather is nice, you can sit out on the deck to eat. Also on the deck is a jacuzzi - perfect for the chilly nights. The owners - Kathy and Jack, make you feel quite at home, and are very warm and friendly. This bed and breakfast exudes hospitality, warmth, and comfort. By far the nicest place I have ever stayed.
