Historical Traveler Reviews Alexander's Guesthouse Key West

Alexander's Guest House made for the perfect vacation!

from karch75

Stayed at Alexander's for 4 nights. The staff was helpful and very friendly. Our room was beautifully decorated and very clean. The pool and hot tub were also vrey nice. The highlight was the evening happy hour. Got to know other guests, the owners and the best bartenders. It was in a quiet area but close enough to all of the attractions. Will be back next year!

Key West: D-, Alexander's: B+

from Tackle

Key West is not what it used to be....the hurricanes have denuded the sumptuous tropical vegetation so that the run down and the delapidated are apparent to the undiscerning eye. The quaint shops and restaurants are disappearing, replaced by tacky t-shirt emporiums and awful tourist-trap eateries, catering to the day trippers from cruise ships.

Alexander's Guest House was a quiet oasis from the deteriorating vacation experience in Key West. The front desk staff while phlegmatic was pleasant enough and helpful. The rooms were large and airy, although the bathrooms could use some updating, especially the raucous ventilation fans. The complimentary breakfast was mediocre. The pool and hot tub were pleasant as was the complimentary happy hour. Overall it was a pleasant place to stay, but could not make up for the changes occuring in Key West, an unwelcome transition to a semitropical Margate New Jersey from a charming Provincetown of Florida.

Incredible gay guesthouse

from anonymous

Certainly one of the best gay guesthouse in Florida. The staff is really nice and everything is done in order to improve the guest's comfort. Special remark for French speaking tourists : the manager speaks a perfect French and can help you if you have difficulties in English language.

Best bed's ever!

from anonymous

we stayed at alexander's guest house not knowing it way a gay b&b lol. our friend that we were visiting booked us the room. didn't matter. we soon became the token straight couple. had a blast. kirby rocks. the pool is fabulous. not too many guys hit on my boyfriend, thank god. the beds are so cozy. slept great. the water pressure in the shower s---. key west doesnt have any water pressure anyway. bring your bicycles, you'll cover alot more ground alot quicker. 9 blocks 1 way to duvall in that heat can be brutal after the 5th time on foot.

Exceptional Vacation

from anonymous

My partner and I just spent 6 wonderful days at Alexander's. Everything we had read was right on the money. This was our first trip to Key West and we couldn't have chosen a better place to go. We have nothing negative to say about our stay. All of the staff were amazing, in particular 1 staff member made the visit even more special (Thanks FRED). Breakfast every morning was truly enjoyable, we were so spoiled by having breakfast ready for us every morning. Coctails in the afternoon was so relaxing, we could sit by the pool and sip on our drink, talk with the other guests or just sit and read our book. We will be return visitors. Thanks again to everybody at Alexander's.

Exceptional service, great accommodations and wonderful grounds!

Stayed four nights at this property while celebrating my 40th birthday last weekend and can honestly say it has been my best lodging experience in KW! We had the pleasure of staying in the one-bedroom apartment, which in my opinion is by far the best value for a GLBT couple staying on the island. It consisted of a fully-equipped kitchen, dining area, living room, bedroom, large bathroom, private balcony overlooking Fleming St. and a personal sundeck with lounge chairs and table for outdoor dining. The very affordable room rate for all room types included a continental breakfast and nightly happy hour, which are a great way to meet and greet your fellow housemates! The grounds & guest common areas including multiple sundecks, Jacuzzi, and pool were well kept and certainly help to create Alexander's very relaxing and comfortable environment. That atmosphere is probably my favorite aspect of this property as it was conducive to enjoying a conversation by the pool, reading a book under the tropical foliage, or simply nursing your Duval St. remnants from the prior evening.

The staff while appearing minimal and unobtrusive made sure our needs were consistently met if not exceeded. Daily housekeeping was quick, efficient, and left our room in the same immaculate condition it was in upon our arrival.

While there are a few other inns on Fleming catering to the gay & lesbian clientele, Alexander's appears to be more of a traditional Inn by its offerings. Absent during our stay were the singles "cruise" and clothing optional scenes which are present at some of the other properties. What were present were repeat guests, new acquaintances and friendly, smiling staff (Thank You, Kirby)! Next time we'll be on the repeat guest list.

Sheik, Clean, & cool is what Im into!!!!!

from anonymous

When I stayed at The Alexander it was not only the most beautifully decorated guesthouse in Key West but it was also very clean. The new owners have given The Alexander a sheik and most tasteful cozy yet loungy feeling. You wont be dissatisfied when you stay here, your jaw will drop. You wont be surrounded by all the normal Key West decorations like you always see and Im talking about palm tree fabrics and plastic macaws. The staff is extremely helpful and very comforting- they make you feel like the Alexander is your home away from home. Whether you want privacy or pampering The Alexander is Key West's biggest hidden secret. Seriously you got to go here!!!!!!!

Loved it here!

from anonymous

This place was perfect.. I loved the location - it wasn't so close to the craze of the main drag. I met many new friends here, too!

What a great place

from anonymous

This is the best gay guest house in Key West! It really is.

Comfortable, so friendly, intimate - just perfect really. The rooms are nicely furnished without being too designer or chintzy and over the top. The three sun decks and pool are lovely places to relax by. The happy hour (or hours!) for guests can be a riot and is a great way for travellers to meet and exchange stories - and boy have I heard a few!

All in all, a very good guest house that understands how to make its male and female guests feel comfortable and special.
