The excitement of the crossing and the zero visibility from all the smoke of the fires everywhere certainly got us inspired to give some big miles today.     ... this would happen, but I long for the flat and straight interstate highways through Iowa.

    For now, everything is good with my car. Have put on over 6,000 miles since leaving MN (if you're looking for a breakdown of miles driven: Me: all of them, Mom: none of them). Runs great with plenty of passing power, just using a little extra oil. The Monte and I are ok with that.

    ... Lake book. Oh, he's a real photographer. For CL: "stop everywhere, do everything." Beyond the park, his recommendations provided a short-term roadmap for the trip, and the photography lessons opened up a new aperture for me. After a full day of exploring, we were in the gift shop looking at postcards. Nearby, I spotted a coffee-table style book - mostly photographs. Flip to the back fold - there's my old man, younger in the photo but with the same tripod, author.
