Cobblestone roads in Colonia

Come to Day Tour Colonia, Uruguay, in our one day guided Tour toColonia . Colonia is an antique city on the shores of Rio de La Plata, on the side of Uruguay, just a 50 minutes ride minutes from Buenos Aires in a fast boat. Colonia del Sacramento is the oldest town in Uruguay and its historic center was declared by UNESCO as world ...

... had hired golf buggies to see the sights so we had great fun zipping (safely) around them on our little scooter. Although the cobble stones in the old town were pretty ******* the bum as the scooter didn’t have great suspension.

All to soon we had to return the scooter and prepare of dinner, firstly we looked out over the River and watched the sunset, lovely colours bouncing off the water, occasionally broken by passing sail boats.

Dinner that evening was a ...

Day trip to Uruguay

This day started off somewhat more exciting than anticipated. Having arranged with the concierge a boat trip with "Buquebus" to Uruguay, a little late as usual we got into the taxi believing everything was going swimmingly. Then, just as we were turning up to the port, the concierge was on the intercom of the taxi driver telling us we had forgotten the tickets. The next 20 minutes was like being on a roller coaster at Alton towers. The taxi driver, the star of the ...

Colonia, Uruguay.

I noticed the staff at this Hostel Colonial were not as kissy as at the last Hostel Suites, where everyone who came to work got kissed by fellow staff members, boys with boys and girls alike. They said it would be an insult if you did not kiss your fellow staff members.

This Hostel Colonial was very quaint and homely with lots of little notices everywhere with funny English translations, we had some ...

Fun Buggy

JOIN IN THE FUN – SUNNY - 30.10.09

The Hostel Colonial's push bikes were free so we four decided to go out the next day and join the happy citizens of Uruguay. Half a kilometer down the road we noticed a Thrifty rental business. This looked like fun, so I went and hired us all a golf buggy for the afternoon. Lou and Lynn brought the push bikes back to the Hostel and we set off down ...

Jeez, well, all I can say is that I have been to Uruguay, that's the best I can say about it. Colonia is really pretty and was a nice relaxing contrast of BA, but it doesn't take long to wear out your options of things to do. It is also more expensive than BA. The hostel was quite nice though and the breakfasts suited me down to the ground (they put a huge bowl of dulce de leche on the table). I met a nice girl called Laura from Birmingham ...

Colonia, Montevideo and Punta del Esta

Given that Uruguay is a small country and my time is somewhat limited I`m going to just do one entry for the whole country so brace yourself people because here goes. February 6 - Giovanna and I crossed from Argentina into Colonia which is this cool little town originally established by the Portugese as a port for smuggling goods into Buenos Aires. The Portugesse have long since gone but the fortified walls and old colonial buildings remain ...

The Daytrip to Uruguay

On my 3rd day staying in Buenos Aires, I took a fast ferry (run by Buquebus) to Colonia del Sacramento, in Uruguay. Spending 184 Argentine Peso on the boat fare, this was among the most costly thing I purchased in this South American trip. Rio de la Plata becomes so wide at its mouth, it's practically like a bay rather than a river. While I could take 3-hours' crossing to the Uruguayan capital - Montevideo, I opted for the small town ...
