Thank You For Getting Us Here Alive

... guy who was already passed out and wouldn't wake up to come get us!
He was barely able to speak because he was trying to keep the van between the lines and swerving and jamming on the brakes recklessly trying to get us to the Driftwood Lodge. "Thanks for getting us here alive!"
More later, but will be testing this to make sure you all can link to the email I send out

Big seas, no vomit!

... point in not, I could read, listen to music, etc. I did get off to have lunch and dinner. I also got off the boat briefly at our stop at Yakutat. It was raining quite heavily and there wasn't much to see, but it was nice to walk on land again. Back on the boat, had dinner, chatted in the bar for a while, back to the couch. The weather that night was even worse than the first night, the ferry was crashing headlong through 7 - 8 metre waves - I was ...

A whale of a day

... was he checked his stock and had the exact bolts and nuts that we needed to repair the coupling. Once we got anchored, we went down to the engine room and started the slow process of getting the shaft back where it belonged. We discovered that the motor mounts were loose and the engine and shaft coupling were no longer aligned properly which is why the bolts sheared. Tim adjusted the motor mounts and aligned it with the shaft coupling and ...

What can you say about the capital of Alaska?

The BEST lemon tart is found in Juneau! It's at a place called the Paradise Bakery and Cafe. When we arrived in Juneau, it was raining and cold. We had a tour arranged to take a Float Plane out to the Taku Lodge and take a tour of the ice fields at the same time. We had some time before the tour left, so we stepped into this tiny cafe. As we walked up to the counter, a woman was ...

Ports of Call - Alaska cruise

... had been spotted. But after a lot of sweating on my part, false sightings by the people below I ended my workout. I did catch a glimpse of a whale tail that afternoon.

The last day had arrived and my Mom and I had to leave our stateroom. I really enjoyed someone cleaning up my mess two times a day! I can't even get my daughter to clean up once a week!! We elected to use the recommended tipping allowance which was automatically ...

Juneau, you know?

... weren't so excited to go see the glacier; however, once we got there we were glad we went. The salmon are spawning, so there were several places to view salmon. I have included some pictures. Jay says the white part is where they are decaying already (I thought they died and then decayed, I guess when spawning they decay as they go and then they decay so much they can't survive any longer). Anyway, Jay assured me the salmon he would be ...

Day 64, 65

... to the area, different species to the ones experienced down south. Also keeping a watch for whales, which was one of the reasons for taking this trip. It was not long before we were rewarded with a view of some humpback whales, a mother and a young one, feeding and breathing then diving. The boat trip was at a good pace with a few lumpy bits but no big challenge. We were off loaded at private jetty 30 miles north of Juneau and had a bus transfer into ...

Downtown Juneau

... done in a little over an hour and then did a little geocaching in town. We took a walk to the area where the cruise ships dock. There were four ships in Juneau so the streets were crowded. We spent about an hour walking around. Afterwards we returned to the campground for dinner and a shower. Nothing photogenic today, so no posted pictures. Tomorrow we catch the ferry in the afternoon for Haines. Our last leg on water.

It was the best of days... It was the worst of day

... up there. Well... Jan joked about it, but I seriously have been considering this as an option.

Juneau didn't seem large, by my "big city" standards... no skyscrapers, or congested freeways... but it is spread out over a large area.

Arriving at the dock, we boarded a small red, jetboat - "The Red Dolphin"- and met our pilot, another Tlingit Indian. He proved to be a great guide because of his native point of view. He told us ...
