We passed a buoy with seals on it, all proud and posing. Three more whales showed up, maybe jealous of the attention being paid to the seals? And surrounded us, flippering us off.

I learned a heck of a lot about whales. Ask me about it in person.

... we all stood in the lake, which was exactly as cold as you would expect a glacier lake would be - freezing!! Nearly 5 hours after arriving it was time to walk the mile find a half back to the bus stop for the hour long ride back to town. Our gold mining friends had suggested we go to the Island Pub in Douglas for some excellent pizza. We were interested in seeing Douglas which is directly across the Gastineau Channel from Juneau. ... took an Alaska Canoe Adventure to Lake Mendenhall and the Mendenhall Glacier. Canoe held 10 of us paddling. They supplied wet gear and we supplied the muscle power. Saw lots of little ice bergs; paddled over 2 miles to face of glacier and then rowed over to an amazing waterfall where we stopped and had some snacks then rowed ourselves back.
Finally home a-jiggy at the Juneau ...

... that our airline was not flying any planes on 4th as it is a holiday. We had a reservation number and flight details but no flight. Luckily there was a small plane flying in to bring someone out and was returning empty so we booked on with Fjord Airlines (see the photo).
