... along their inner bay boardwalk, which reminded us both of Mission Bay. And two minutes walk away is the coastal side, with all kinds of surf beaches, beach volleyball and islands to sail out to. We could have DEFINITELY spent some sweet time here. And once again, beautiful, warm and sunny. And once again, we were told by locals, "It's not usually this nice here..." After a light breakfast (I stopped eating their regular breakfast after the day of feeling sick) we met a few of our traveling companions, Tracy, Bill, Louise and Mark for a ...

Living like a local in Juneau

A travel blog entry by kramertown on Jul 19, 2014

... by lunch and some playground time, we walked 2 blocks to the Juneau City Museum. It is a tiny, 5 room place dedicated to telling the story if how Juneau came to be. Like San Francisco, it is almost entirely a story about Gold, just delayed by 30 years and complicated by terrain and temperature. Around 1880 a pair of prospector Joe Juneau and Richard Harris discovered gold in the hills above what was to become Juneau (also called Harrisburg at the time). ...
