After leaving Lake Lucile and the loons, we ventured off to Talkeetna AK, which is the town Northern Exposure was based upon. What a great little town. On the surface it was a basic touristy artsy town, but as we explored the town off the beaten path and talked with some of the people that live there year round we could truly see the resemblance to the tv show. I had a an actual meeting with Mayor, who is a cat named Stubs. He was found at the General Store behind ...

Monday 15/6 - We had a 2 1/2hr bus ride to Mt McKinley Lodge today. The weather has remained kind and we have a perfectly clear day and 28 degree C temps. Our driver was kind enough to make a few photo stops for us. We were also lucky enough to see a couple more moose. One standing in the middle of a beaver pond and one just emerging from the tree line. We arrived at lodge at 1pm and as our bags haven't arrived yet we sat on ...

Met Bubba our guide and Bill and Martin from Florida for our 5 am fishing charter. We went up the Talkeetna River to the mouth of Larson Creek to fish, or, as Bubba said, "floss" for sockeye salmon. Often fish get caught in their bodies or ...

After unloading, we walked down to the main area of shops, galleries, and restaurants. Same basic assortment of souvenirs, but in old, little buildings and cabins. We walked down to the river, hoping to get a glimpse of Mt McKinley but it was too cloudy. Since the weather was so nice, we all sat outside on the deck of Denali Brewpub for a long time for beers, a light meal, and people watching.

Back to the motel to sort out our gear for tomorrow's train ride to ...

... br> We were met by one of the park rangers who was the image of Harry Potter (the ambo)..

CJ got to pet and talk to load of sled dogs and take loads of photos..

But being the considerate person I am I will only use one ;)

This was followed by a demonstration of the dogs doing their thing pulling a sled around on a gravel track as well of displays of the harnesses and equipment ...
