One of the rental car attendants had said you will have to call the hotel and have them come get you. When we got to the hotel we decided to take the bus to Monreale so we asked the concierge about the bus. We needed to buy tickets in advance at at tobacco shop, but they were all closed on Sunday. Very mixed city....
We arrived in Palermo around 6pm and it was almost dark. We quickly realised that the city is worse than Hillbrow in Johannesburg in certain areas (thanks to a road closure due to a street carnival and the GPS) and a really smart Mediterranean sea-side city only a few blocks away.

Go West life is peaceful there
... lazing on the beach just not yet. Back to the room for a good cooked brekky and we then hit the coastal road further west along the north coast of Sicily. We found a cute little locals place for a coffee stop and then found a spot right on the beach as the sun was setting for our late lunch.

Palermo is one of the places that I don’t think all people would enjoy, there are large, ugly, concrete buildings, dodgy looking people on every corner and generally looks quite run down. But it is authentic, beautiful and bursting in character like nowhere we have been before. We loved it, especially outside Palermo.
