... from the Old Testament. The middle apse has a huge magnificent mosaic of Christ. The interior has roman columns and the cloister garden arches and fountain are Arab inspired. The bronze door has 42 Biblical scenes. We shared caprese and stuffed meat balls (tasted like pork sausage) a Monreale specialty. Palermo food markets definitely have an Arabian feel. Breakfast was fresh squeezed blood red orange juice and fried rice balls that they call pancakes. ...

... caught the 8pm ferry across to Naples because it worked out cheaper and quicker than driving back through Sicily and up the boot of Italy. We were supposed to arrive at 8am, only to be awoken from our cabin at 06h00 because we'd made good time during the night. It was then onto Barrea in the mountains!

... course being at the Sea makes the weather a bit nicer.

Me: The heat is not a problem…we were in San Vito Lo Capo last winter and we know it is really mild. Besides, a fireplace is wonderful and would be plenty enough heat.

Okay, house on the beach with a fireplace to keep us warm on chilly winter nights has been rented. Done.

... in the mountains about 45 minutes from Palermo. It was so nice to get out of the city and experience the "real" Sicilian village lifestyle. The day was filled with sunshine, wonderful views of the city below and delicious donuts in a street side café.
