The Goodners couldn't come so close to Venice without visiting, and it was an easy one hour train ride over and back from Verona…nice to visit without having to stay there or move again. started to stroll. We had a coffee in a pavement café in front of
the arena, and wandered down the shopping streets until we came
across the market square. More coffee, or maybe beer followed.
Every street we turned down led to a hidden square, fabulous old
architecture or something else of interest. This city proved to be
the unexpected gem of the holiday and it was a pity we did not have
more time.

gates and another bar or two. At the end of a lovely day, we hiked
back to the hotel and sat on the roof top watching the sun drop in
the sky while drinking Prosecco. Our evening meal was in the pizza
restaurant near the hotel again. Unfortunately the friendly waiter
was not there again.
Having waited ten years
to see the Italian lakes, we were not disappointed. What a wonderful
place.
