... just for the fun of it, where the Bernini statue 'The Four Rivers” is placed and Borromini’s masterpiece church Sante Agnes in Agone is situated, and world famous restaurant Tre Scalini hosted Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, and Eddie Albert, is now filled with circus stalls that look like they belong on a vacant lot in Philomath, hawking the most inane of throwaway souvenirs. It’s pathetic, appalling and inspirational.

anxious thoughts

... the bar I found the "we're 19 and in a foreign country, so lets get drunk" mentality. I don't know which I find more obnoxious.

In the lobby I end up chatting with two cute girls from San Francisco. Turns out they're fellow WWOOFers, who've been working all over Italy. We sit and compare our experiences. Its refreshing to meet travelers who are on the same wavelength. We chat for a bit, exchange contact info, then it's time for bed. Tomorrow is a big day.

Day 52 - Rest

... dressed in red and golden robes with a lovely hat (I'm sure hat it not the correct term but I have no knowledge of catholic headdress), the pope was in position atop the high alter and the front and the areas nearest the alter where full with, I imagine, the upper echelons of the catholic church, all too in their full ceremonial robes, the section of cardinals all in bright purple especially stood out. It was very colourful and impressive but as the mass was in Italian ...

When in Rome...Wow!

... the street from where we parked! We took the shoes and souvenirs back to the room and rested for a little bit. I really felt like something a little more American for dinner...we tried for the Hard Rock Cafe last night but it was too full. Dad promised to take me there tonight. Yay! We took the train to Barberini station and walked up to the restaurant. Sure enough, another hour and a half wait. But the restaurant was only a ...

... a diamond shape and placing it over his genitals. I swear, that was his response. This was no insult. It was meant to say that this was a gift appropriate to courting, quite a compliment from an Italian male. All 6 of us broke into uncontrolable fits of laughter. Gianpaolo's drunken thunderbirds dance was in full flight. Hugs, kisses on both cheeks and general merriment entailed. He was genuinely taken aback by the gift. After a few minutes of ...

... and bascilicas in the states and abroad, yet was prepared to be amazed by the Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle. Once again, I was not prepared for the unbelievable sights that awaited me. You can never imagine what the Vatican has to offer, you can only experience it. Allison and I walked up to the Vatican from the side and only set eyes on the large protective wall at first. Following the signs to the Musei Vaticano. We took the recommendation of Rick Steves (old faithful ...

... segment, where is just sang with out instruments or microphone, and just belted it from his sould. It was the most moving, and powerful thing I have ever witnessed. He was so authentic or was truly happy that people who didnt speak english still sang along with him. He kept thanking us for listening to his music, it was really cool. So to stop droning on about how amazing this concert was, I will just leave it as AMAZING! and move on with my story. After we all poured out ...

Getting to know what's new, and old

Spending one's first days in Rome is a confusing proposition. While many of us spend countless hours debating the decision whether to travel toward destinations that are historically significant or those that are more contemporarily relevant, this same exercise can occur many times a day within the city limits of this ancient capital. At first consideration, Rome is the quintessential mecca for daily lessons in Western history. But spend some time hanging out in ...

Italy just gets better...

Hello again everyone! We know it's been a while since we checked in, but if you saw how expensive internet access was in Sorrento and Capri, you'd understand! 1 EURO for 10 minutes??? Unbelievable... Rome finished as fantastic as it started... we saw all the big sites and we've got some great pictures to share with all of you. The only negative was missing the FREE (that's our price range in expensive Italy ...
