8/24 was our first full day in Long Beach. We decided to take a ride to Oregon. The town of Astoria, OR is only 1/2 hour away. Yesterday we had our first horrific taste of travelling on the I.5 or Interstate 5. We hadn't realised that it was Memorial Day holiday, so the traffic was horrendous, so were the climatic conditions. It bucketed down the whole way from Seattle down to near our destination.
Trying to find a gas station was fun (not) as they were on the opposite side of the highway of course. This did not go down at all well with my driver!
Yup, theres gold on them there beaches. Unfortunately, It is so fine you work your tale off to get just a smigit. Black sand and and gold.

... outside sunning a reading a bit. The book is “The Rez”. It gives you a good history about the Oglala Sioux on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. A great read and very informative. The author has a real knack for verbiage and can be quite entertaining in the process.
