Historical Traveler Reviews Locanda a Ca du Gigante Monterosso

Rude Customer Service

from anonymous

We had a very rude experience at this hotel. When we were checking out we wanted to have a proper receipt issued for our payment since we were paying in cash. Maria took offense to the requested, and shouted at us.

This was the worst hotel experience.

Hotel Horror Story

from anonymous

The one month cancellation policy is a bit steep, and although very friendly over the phone, it was difficult to get a reply regarding the possibility of rescheduling our dates (caused by the severe weather conditions). An agreement was reached for one week later. Upon check-in we were given a very "cool" reception and showed to our room. I believe we were the only guests. The rooms are very nice and comfortable and the location is good. (To be noted that all rooms are on the groundfloor). Breakfast is well presented and there is a good variety. Upon checking out we asked if we could possibly have a credit towards a future stay (original reservations were for 2 rooms 2 nights and we were charged the first 2 nights due to their cancellation policy). This is when the Horror Story started. Maria Pia started shouting at us and frantically called the hotel owner to rush over as "they" are leaving. I never understood why as we had prepaid for 2 nights and only stayed one. We did tell them that we would comment our stay on Tripadvisor The owner came running down the street and said we had to wait for the "caribinieri". English was no longer acceptable: we are in Italy so speak Italian, I was told. My husband had gone to the garage to pick up our car. In the meantime, I am waiting on the sidewalk in front of the hotel, being screamed at by these 2 women. The last thing we heard as we drove off was "You can write to the Almighty ... I don't care!!".

Wonderful hotel with great service

from jSeattle

This is a wonderful hotel in the Cinque Terre. Lovely, spotlessly clean rooms, great location. But perhaps the best thing about A Ca du Gigante is the warm hospitality of the owners. Maria is amazing. Also try their restaurant, Miky's for a great seafood meal.

Loved this place!

from netsirk

We stayed in late September 2004 for our anniversary and were thrilled with our decision to try the 6-room 'gigante' despite less internet coverage than some other favorite stand-bys. It is on the newer side and is kept as clean as if it had just opened yesterday. The personal service is also fantastic and put the experience over the top. We stayed in two different rooms and both were lovely - the decor felt much more modern and sumptuous than other places in the area. The enclosed 'balcony' in the suite is very tiny, so next time we might skip upgrading as it was a bit disappointing. If you must have a hotel with an ocean view then this place is not for you. But if you want somewhere that has wonderful decor, is steps from the beach but on a quiet side street, is sparkling clean, and serves a tasty assortment of breakfast specialties from the area then you need look no further!

A Gem in the Cinque Terre

from John_Z_MN

We tried without success to book the raved about Steno or Pasquale and finally decided to "settle" for the A Ca Du Gigante--What a pleasant surprise. The rooms were clean, neat and very easily accessible, the location was perfect (especially since we were driving), breakfast was very good and all of those things may have made it a borderline "4" rating. What makes it a "5" is the irrepressible Maria Pia. Our charming hostess booked dinner reservations for us all 3 nights of our stay with the last night at the jointly owned Miky. After a fantastic meal for my birthday the lights went out in the packed dining room and in comes Maria Pia with a huge fruit and cream dessert with candle to complete the celebration. Hospitality doesn't get any better than that!!

A Ca du Gigante

If you are looking for a hotel in Monterosso - this would be the first place I reccomen. It is a 4 star Bed and Breakfast run by a wonderful woman named Maria - and it is steps off of the beach. We had a huge room w/ balcony, heated floor tiles, excellent lines, etc. It was the perfect place to stay!

Definately will go back

Cute as a button and very quaint! This little hotel has it all, it was very personal, very clean and its ambiance was superb. Claudia will bend over backwards to accommodate your every need. We also dined at their restaurant called Miky's which the four of us would highly recommend as the food and service were excellent.

Wonderful Place and People

from SpankyFL

I ditto the other two reviews to date. The room was new and marble/tile, very clean, nice size, good bath. Maria and Claudia could not have been more helpful. I give it 4 stars instead of five, as there is no view. My expectation is that it is hard to find it all in Monterosso, as space is a premium. So, I would expect that we will be back to Ca du Gigante.

Great find

from Prissy

My 2 sisters and i loved this new Hotel. The owner had a great personality and was helpful with all our needs. The beds were good, the breakfast was excellent and the bath was wonderful. We loved being able to drive to the door of this Hotel in cinque Terre and she allowed us to check in early.

She even obtained an email for me from my husband on her computer and graciously allowed me to respond back to him.

It was clean, nicely decorated, a great air conditioner and had a small terrace.

Loved it!!

Excellent!

Great place to stay in Cinque Terre. Its located in the best of the five towns, Monterroso. Private parking right in front, great upscale rooms in a chic atmosphere but the best part was meeting Maria Pia, the hotel manager. She was the nicest Italian we encountered in a two week period in Italy. Extremely nice, greets you like family and totally hospitable. She made our stay in Cinque Terre extra special. We will certainly go back to A Ca du Gigante!
