... friendlier than what we encountered on Oahu. Life is much slower and relaxed. A great place for a holiday. Drove to St Regis Resort - the only five star resort on the island - to view the sunset. Valet parked the car and walked into the resort as if we owned it. Joined the crowd on the balcony overlooking Hanalei Bay. Ordered drinks and cheese platter and simply watched the world go by. ... is down a deeply rutted gravel road. On the way back we stopped at Sand Kawai'ele Sand Mine Bird Sanctuary where we saw Black-necked stilts, moorhens, and new one for our list the Black-crowned Night Heron. ... hiked through the jungle, including several stream crossings where we had to wade up to our knees. Thankfully they had ropes across all the streams, because all the traffic made the water muddy and we couldn't see what we were walking across.
