Historical Traveler Reviews A Bed Of Roses At Yosemite Oakhurst

Yes, it is all that and more!

from anonymous

We enjoyed our long weekend at Josie and Jenine's A Bed of Roses Bed and Breakfast.

Our room was very clean and luxerious. All the rooms are decorated to perfection. Breakfast was always great and my husband never complained he didn't get enough (he is a big breakfast type of guy).

The town of Oakhurst offers a lot of different shopping and wandering options. We enjoyed drinking coffee at the local stop and listening to the guitar player. We were definetly in the "relaxation" mode. On our way up the mountain it began to snow so we even got some play time in.

We enjoyed the massage chair, bottom less cookie jar and at night there is nothing better than good conversation and a nice glass of port then off to relax in our own spa tub. Heaven!

We will definetly go back again and again.

A peaceful respite after a long day in the park

from anonymous

We spent several days and nights with Josie and Jennie at their Bed of Roses B & B in their County Rose Room. The cozy room was delightful, very clean and had a very large two person Jacuzzi in the room. Nothing was missed, there were large containers of bath salts, large bottles of shampoo and conditioner, beautiful sweet-smelling soaps, there were an assortment of DVD's to enjoy, reading material, a pitcher with cool water, glasses, lovely little candies, beautiful flowers, a bottle of nice wine with two glasses on a little tray that we could take right outside our door to a little sitting area on the patio which overlooked the surrounding mountains. The pool was divine! The food was even better...we were looking to get up early and hit Yosemite and were thinking about skipping breakfast...that would have been a mistake. The sitting room in the main part of the house has just about all the information you need about the surrounding area, plenty of great books for kids too! They even have a little petting zoo out back for children, although mine are grown, I was quite impressed. We got to peep in the other rooms and they are all quite beautiful and just pristine clean! The bed was heavenly after a long day hiking in the park. I would recommend this B & B without reservation, if you like the B & B experience you will enjoy Josie and Jennie's hospitality! Their website accurately reflects the facilities (--) I hope you will enjoy your trip as much as we did.

Quiet and Secluded

My husband and I stayed at the Bed of Roses B & B, and found it to be a delightful and relaxing stay. Off the beaten path, with a menajerie of pets. The food was excellent. If you're a pet lover, it's one of the few places around that you can bring your pet along for the stay.

The best bed and breakfast

from anonymous

A Bed of Roses is the best bed and breakfast I have gone to get away from it all; it provides the best atmosphere, service and has all the charm of it's own. The rooms have a unique theme and has the amenities for great comfort. The two hostess are most friendly. This place surpasses all other bed and breakfast places in the surrounding areas. I will continue to come to place for it's serenity and great quality of service.

Wanted to spend the rest of my life their because it was so wonderful

A Bed of Roses was the most unique and wonderful B&B I have ever experienced. As I arrived the smell of the mountains enveloped me in peace and well being. The views were amazing and the stillness settled my inner soul. I loved the petting zoo and all the water features scattered througout the area. As a bird watcher I was thrilled to see dozens and dozens of gold finches and hummingbirds flitting about the porch. Janine and Josie were the best and made me feel like part of the family right away. My room was amazing. There were so many wonderful little touches like bath salts for the jacuzzi and special soaps. The breakfast was wonderfully delicious. I will definitely make a special trip next time to stay at A Bed of Roses. No thorns in there bed. If you are visiting Yosemite you need to stay here it is perfect and very close to the entrance to the park. Thanks again and I still want to live there. I felt a connection there that will remain as one of the best times of my life. Next time I may even take my husband with me because it is always nicer to experience all the beauty with someone you love. I met 2 adorable young couples their. 1 from Italy and 1 just married and on there honeymoon. Oh did I forget to mention I had the use of their computer and the massage chair. They even had some sipping brandy in a beautiful decanter, set out with every kind of tea you could think of. Homemade cookies were in the jars and the coffee was always fresh and hut. If you are anywhere within central California you need to make a special trip to visit J&J at A Bed of Roses and tell them I sent you.

Great place to stay while visiting Yosemite

from anonymous

My wife and I normally stay in the Yosemite valley when we visit the Park. This summer I decided to surprise her and booked a room at a Bed and Breakfast called " beds of Roses ". Since the accomodations were made over the internet, we had no ideas what to expect. What we found was delightful. We stayed in the "Christmass Room ". The view from the deck was breathtaking. The food and drinks were tasty and well presented. After a long day of hiking, we found the pool to be God sent. At night, the wife and I would venture out to the local Indian casino just 8 miles away. The drive to the entrance of the Park takes only 15 minutes. The wife and I can't hardly wait to go and discover the others rooms at " Beds of Roses ".

Wondeful place to stay, great location

The food offered for breakfast was rather weak.

A Very Pleasant Stay

My wife and I had a great time at A Bed of Roses in Oakhurst, California. The breakfast was excellent, and the hosts were warm and friendly. We will certainly wish to stay there whenever we take another trip to Yosemite.

Wonderful B & B

from anonymous

After reading the previous post, I felt compelled to write about my experience at A Bed of Roses. It couldn't be more opposite than the visitors from Paso Robles. The hosts, Josie and Jenine, were friendly and gracious. The rooms were warm and uniquely decorated. The breakfast was delicious. The scenery was beautiful. If I wanted a sterile 'hotel' room, I would have stayed at a Motel 6. Instead, I wanted a Bed and Breakfast experience, and that's exactly what I got. I didn't expect soundproof rooms and a concierge. I expected a homey, comfortable place to spend the night. A Bed of Roses provided that, and much more.

The little things (like noise and privacy and service) were lacking!

from anonymous

The problem with this place is that it is trying to be luxurious without spending any money (except yours). Funky decorating, high noise levels, lack of privacy, lack of attention to detail, low standards of customer service, and cutting corners wherever they can pretty much sums it up. If that doesn't bother you, they do have good beds, nice jacuzzi tubs, and the cats are great! For us, at $120/night, it wasn't enough.

The little plaques on the wall say "Welcome to our home" and they're right--this is not a professional bed and breakfast but someone's home...with bad paint and decoration choices and an unawareness that those pretty purple curtains between the bedroom and the bath in the "most romantic room" are no substitute for a door when you need to take care of business; where the bedroom doors are hollow and there is no weatherstripping or other noise-minimizing devices, where grandchildren sprawl on the only couch and paying customers must seek other seating.

Breakfast is served at 8:30 a.m., whether you're awake or not. If you're not, they'll leave you a plate wrapped in saran for you to microwave (appealing!) There is one and only one of everything (one glass of juice, one tortilla, etc.) The artichoke in the quiche is slices off the stalk (no tips for you!) and the hostesses give you your plate then go in the kitchen to eat theirs behind closed doors--so much for service... the 24-hour cookie jar only has crumbs in it 14 hours of the day, and though there is a guest fridge and microwave, there is no silverware, saucers, or even paper plates available.

The decorating in the rooms is kitschy, to say the least. Ours was billed as "romantic, tropical." A weird combination of oriental, E. Indian jungle and Hawaiian style, in a room whose walls had been painted dark purple and lavender, with rag-roll painting. Dark and too bright at the same time. The "Christmas room" is your worst nightmare of the advertising industry having its way and Xmas never going away. The "Country Rose" was so small they couldn't fit the bed in the room and still have any other furniture--even Motel 6 isn't so plain...the Rose Garden room was my favorite, in part because it was simple (no rag painting!) and in part because it had stripping around the door to cut down noise....oh yes, the noise.

Even with earplugs we were awakened at 7:15 a.m. Sunday morning by our hosts in the dining area 3 feet from our door. From our room, we heard other rooms, including the hostesses private area, and their blowdryer. Sitting in the great room, I could hear my boyfriend getting into the tub! Our "most romantic" room didn't get much romance, since if we could hear every word, sigh, cough, in the great room, then they could hear, well, never mind, you get the idea.

When we told our hostess about the noise issues, the only comment was "No one's ever complained before." She said the people in the Xmas room were leaving so it shouldn't be a problem the next day, ignoring that our issue was the noise in the dining area. When we asked to be moved because of the noise issues, they said there was a $30 charge because none of the rooms had been made up--the maid didn't come till the next day! We offered to make our own bed in the new room with the linens we had already used. She did move us but did not seem very happy about it at all, into the Xmas room which had an outside entry. You could still HEAR through the walls, but at least the noise was a little farther removed.

I could mention the burnt-out lightbulbs, the lack of instructions on how to use a satellite tv remote, the dust and cobwebs on decorations, the rudeness once we asked to be moved, getting locked out of the house since they "forgot" to leave the key in our room, but...we left the next day and aren't ever ever ever going back.
