... viewing of sockeye salmon in a stream where the female was about to spawn being harassed/guarded/wooed by a larger male with a large green hooked snout. Trout darted around - their aim is to eat the eggs. No wonder out of 1500 eggs laid by one salmon only 3 make it to adulthood. Todays's new sighting was a porcupine - larger than I expected and who obligingly climbed up a tree. There had been a bear and two cubs, but we missed ...

We are still in the Misty Tunnel Forecast: Overcast. Rain. 13*C Today we had planned to go on a 'once-in-a-lifetime' helicopter flight to the glaciers, land on one and have a walk around. ... crossed our part of the glacier. On one side, a cliff adorned with trees and waterfalls framed our view and as we looked carefully we saw a couple of mountain goats playing. We took so many photos, but all too soon it was time to re-board our choppers and head back. The bus took us all the way back to the boat and we re-embarked, ready for some domestic and quiet time. (i.e. me to do the laundry and the girls to watch TV). Dinner ...

... the Margerie Glacier. The early morning light was almost purple (remember the solstice nearly dark!) and the light coming off the glacier was so bright during the day that it was almost headache inducing. Once again it is impossible to reproduce what the eye can see in words or film but these make up very special memories for us to bring home! We had hoped to see more wildlife - as in whales - but apart from an occasional plume sighting in the distance they have been so what ...
