... next stop was Juneau the capital of Alaska, which was founded by a gold rush in 1880
we hopped on a shuttle to the Mendenhall glacier which was awesome,majestic even,with a bluey,aqua tinge of colour to it,and nearby was a huge waterfall,and we saw salmon in the streams,it was amazing.
next stop was Icy Strait point.a small town where there is a lot of marine life,we saw lot and lots of salmon ,and quite a few eagles.

... glacier for one week and come back down to shower and then go back up! I can only imagine how cold it must get up there some nights!! We met our dogs that have all participated in the Iditarod before. It's a 10,000 mile race from Anchorage to Nome... amazing! The dogsledding ride was my favorite activity because it was so Alaska!! ... everyone on the bus to bring nothing into the park except for plain water. Bears roam freely in the area and can get confrontational if you even have flavored water. After seeing the size of some bears I have no doubt who would win in a confrontation. The parking lot has bear proof garbage containers and we later found out, so does downtown Juneau.

The glacier is spectacular and you can get great pictures from the visitor's center area but ...

We chose the outside deck area and braved the cold sea air to make sure we had a clear view of the whales. They also had food and drink service and bathrooms. Planning our day in Juneau was tough..
