This morning in Taormina was a unique version of Hell, as we browsed and shopped away on Taormina's fashionable main strip, or rather, Benita browsed and shopped away, as I was dragged along for the ride, like some poor puppy being pulled around by his leash. What made today a unique form of Hell, was that the dreaded cruise ships were in, taking …
Etna
Mount Etna represents unfinished business for me in Sicily, a place I didn't have the time to visit last time around, nor the funds to do a proper tour of the famous volcano. The six-year wait was worth it, as Etna did not disappoint, probably because of our excellent guide, Paolo, from a tour company called Etna Experience. Recommended by the …

... well-preserved Randazzo is the most attractive of Etna's villages, and built entirely of black volcanic stone. Upon arrival, you will visit the main square and Cathedral of Santa Maria Church, first constructed in the early-13th century, and subsequently rebuilt several times.
After a stop at a famous local patisserie in the Cathedral Square for a refreshing pistachio gelato, you will continue on to the Cottanera Estate. ...
THE ROCKING IS OVER WE'RE ON LAND YESSSSS
It was nice to wake up to a non rocking ship. It may be hard for some of you to understand what it is like to try and function while a ship is rocking. It makes even simple tasks like eating, brushing your teeth and showering very awkward. Sleeping is difficult as well especially when you feel nauseous...

We visit the Duomo which is built on top of the ancient Temple of Minerva. Finally we see Apollo's Temple, built in 600 BC, which seems oddly out of place in the city center.
I'll miss my Italian family! Hope to see you again soon.

Great little guesthouse, with an excellent continental breakfast featuring organic bread and a great selection of fresh fruit. Nice touches are organic cookies, cold bottled water, and espresso, available at any time.
The owners, Rob and Cristina, are two of the kindest people you could hope to meet, spending a great deal of time with us upon arrival explaining the location of various sites, restaurants, cafes, gelaterias, etc. Also very helpful assisting us with booking a tour to Mount Etna Guesthouse is located a short walk to the fish market and main piazza, and an even shorter walk from the castle and the numerous restaurants around its perimeter. One of the restaurants offers a special menu for 5 Balconi guests, at the ridiculously low price of 10 Euros, including wine, appetizer, pasta dish, main course, side dish, and bread, and does not charge cover.
