When we were growing up and went on family vacations, my mom was notorious for having brochures spilling out the sides of manila folders and typed up itineraries for every day. Every time she pulled out that folder at dinner, my sister, dad, and I groaned in unison. We knew the next hour would be brochure after brochure of options for the next day.

After lunch, it was time for cab back to the hotel. Note: Madrid’s cab drivers do not speak English – at least ours did not. Sarah was smart and grabbed a card from the hotel so we just gave that to the cabbie. Great idea. ...

We're on the road, starting the first stretch of our trip! It is hard to leave home, but we are looking forward to all of the adventures to come. Car is packed to maximum capacity (with still being able to see out of the windows, of course). With a full tank of gas, a heavy heart, and some nervous excitement, we are off to a good start and almost to buffalo. We will make a couple of posts each day of our trip, so stay tuned!! Love always, Julia and ...
