After being honestly a little underwhelmed in Bangkok, I can tell you that Chaing Mai is really relaxing and enjoyable. The woman here at the 3 Sis who does the in house massage (200 Bhat per hour - about $7) is quite possibly the best masseuse I have had in my life. My little hotel is wonderful and cozy, and I would highly recommend it to anyone heading this way.
I walked around the city yesterday. It is much easier to follow the maps here than in Bangkok. The old city is surround...
We made it! After a short 90 minute flight from Bangkok we arrived in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We spent most of the day walking around, looking at wats and exploring the city. Our guesthouse is beautiful. It has an open-air lobby, which is where I'm sitting right now.
Chiang Mai, Thailand stafoxToday we visited Doi Ithanon National Park. We saw several waterfalls and walked up the the highest peak in Thailand, which is at the end of the Himalayas. We also saw the King & Queen's pagoda on the mountain. Will write more later. About to get on a three day bus & boat trek down the Mekong to Luang Prabang, Laos.

Five hour bus ride to get to Chiang Mai...this was the one bus ride where we didn't bring much to eat since we usually stop for lunch...however, we didn't stop for lunch. We did about a 10 minute stop where we grabbed whatever we could..this ended in chips, gatorade, some random sticky bun thing, cake and some more chips. We arrived in Chiang Mai and found a sweet place to stay for cheap which was really nice. For a town of nearly 1 ...
Chiang Mai, Thailand chelseyandkevin... hearts my voyeuristic mind keeps selecting the frog slide!
So far I have been about 2 metres from 3 frogs but not really had any pop out at me. I know they're there, i can ****ing well hear them even in the city with the tribe style hawker ladys scratching at the wooden frogs with sticks but the fear is if I do have a run in how long it will take me to forget it especially when you've got 11 hours of your own company to fill on a thai speaking bus!
... out and within minutes we jumped into the river to cool off.
While we were larking around in the river Mr. Daeng was preparing our evening meal of sweet and sour vegetables and green curry with chicken. How he found the energy to do this after the days trek we have no idea, but he succeeded in cooking for us all one of the best Thai meals we had in the country.
Waking up with weary legs on day three we were happy to learn that our main activity today ...
So i finally left the madness that was Bangkok, but i did love it secretly! This is a very long entry by the way, be warned!
Travelled up to Chiang Mai on a night train, unable to book first class, we all imagined that the 12 hour train journey would be akin to a battery farm, with pick-pocketers everywhere, holes in the floor for toilets and bed bug ridden beds. We were completely and ashamedly wrong! We turned up, all valuables practically ...
... ended up spending the first night vomiting and with diarrohea, so I'm counting myself lucky, as is James, who thought the hospital was undoubtedly a more comfortable place to be than a rough and ready toilet shack up a mountain in the middle of nowhere with the (malarial) mozzies. In fact, now that I'm writing it down, my tiredness and snotty nose pale into insignificance beside their hassles - even though it was very ...
Chiang Mai, Thailand wmorgan... Had a great big pool with some swim in Hotel rooms and the first buffet breakfast we've had. Ao Nang is a small town 30 mins from Krabi, on the beach with a lovely background of Limestone cliffs. But the beach is nothing special and the town isnt either. Highlights for us were really some great street food, and a great Hotel. We went out for pizza one night which, as I told them, was the worst pizza I have ever had, to which they ...
Chiang mai, Thailand jamish... they would grab it, figure out what it was and then drop it and reach their trunk out again for something different. One of the elephants at the park, Jokia, worked in the logging industry and was blinded by her former owner. Because she cannot see you have to touch her trunk to let her know that you are there with food. We fed her in the morning and she immediately became our favorite elephant in the park. She was really sweet, even ...
