Today we expected rain but it was clear and sunny so took full advantage of this and headed for the streets of Venice... this gorgeous city is built on 117 small islands connected by some 400 bridges over 150 canals. Every turn we take offers some stunning and picturesque views. We head for 'Ponte di Rialto' - apparently an amazing feat of engineering in its day (1592) costing 250 000 ducats - equivalent of €19 million today!! We went up and over ...

We took the Docklands Light Railway from London City airport to Canary Wharf then changed to the Jubilee Line. This was a short walk away down 3 flights of ...

We left Turin and drove to Milan for a quick look around. Everyone we had spoken to said there wasn't much there to look at or to do unless you wanted to shop. So we stopped in and had a look at the main square and the cathedral. It was about a 200km drive to Milan. We also ended up finding somewhere for lunch before continuing on to Lecco on ...

... or at a dead-end, you have to work your way back and choose another route. While at first it was a bit strange to be alone in the dark walking down narrow alleys, we realized this is where everyday life happens in Venice and as we walked we could see and hear people inside the buildings on either side of us enjoying their evening family meal or doing after supper chores. While we were often alone on our journey, we also often crossed men and women walking their ...
